"Sapphire, look,"Saph turned her attention from her camera to Nyeve who was crouching where the saltwater met the shore, gentle waves crashing on her feet as she looked up at Saph with a proud kitten grin, showing her palm where a seashell was resting.
"I got it." Nyeve proudly said. "It looks pretty, right?"
Though it was just an ordinary seashell that could be easily found laying around the sand of the beach, for some reason — Saph found it special as well because Nyeve looked proud and happy finding it, showing it off to her like a well-earned trophy.
With a chuckle, Saph gently grabbed the seashell on top of Nyeve's palm. "Hindi mo na ako tinatawag na 'Ate', that's so disrespectful of you, kiddo." She pointed out playfully and caressed the small seashell on her hand, smiling at Nyeve who pouted at her after saying that.
Saph didn't really mind it but it kept stirring this unknown emotion and feeling within her whenever Nyeve was just calling her by her name. A feeling that she didn't want to bother knowing at all. In fear that if she ever dwelled on it, it might bloom into something more.
"I just don't want to," Nyeve flatly answered, blankly staring at Saph. "And I'm not a kid anymore. I already turned eighteen last month." pag-susungit pa niya.
Saph snorted, "Okay, whatever you say, kid." She teased Nyeve even more which made the latter pout and sulk harder, which was a cute sight by the way.
Saph turned to the sight before them, and she didn't regret taking Nyeve away to just get a glimpse of the sunset together. Nyeve had been pestering her since forever, and when she finally got her license — she sneaked Nyeve out, no one knew that the both of them were at the beach hours away from their hometown.
But it was okay and worth it anyway, because they get to visit the beach, play around by the shore, see the sunset, take a lungful of fresh salty air, and — get to spend some time together peacefully like this.
Seeing how Nyeve was enjoying just loitering around the beach, dipping her feet into the water, and hunting for some seashells and little crabs; Saph promised to herself that she would at least take the girl into the beach once a year. Just the two of them so they could enjoy themselves properly.
"Come on, Nyeve," Saph urged her after watching the eighteen year old girl dig through the damp sands to find another nice-looking seashell. "Upo na tayo sa may tabi so we can watch the sunset." She softly urged the younger lady.
Nyeve looked up at her, blinking with a smile before handing her hand that was dusted by the particles of sand because she kept on digging with her bare hands. Saph didn't mind it and held the girl's hand, helping her stand up with a squeal.
After that, they tried to find a better spot where they could watch the beautiful sunset with other people present on the beach as well.
Nyeve was leaning on Saph's shoulders as she sat beside the older woman, watching the sunset peacefully, there was a contented look on her face that warmed Saph's heart.
It was the little moment like that always made Saph's heart warm and satisfied, as if there was a gentle coldness coating her flames, creating a lukewarm heat that kept on spreading through her existence that made her so... calm and simply content.
"Thank you for bringing me here, Saph," Nyeve suddenly murmured, and Saph turned to look at her. "I'm very happy right now that I'm with you in this moment, in every moment like this." She dreamily added with a soft sigh afterwards.
Their eyes met, and Saph felt like Nyeve's orbs were much more interesting and much more beautiful than the sunset in front of them.
There was just something in Nyeve that day; must be the gentle smile that was etched on her thin pink lips, must be the sparkling honey eyes, must be her long brown hair that was gently dancing against the gentle wind, must be the glow that she was emitting and it got highlighted even more when she was bathed in the orange hues of the sunset.
Or maybe, because it was just Rux Nyeve.
Her heart skipped a beat.
Tamed flames started to roar, yearning for a coldness that only the girl in front of her could give her.
It was bad. It was very bad.
But Saph swallowed down the feelings because she shouldn't dwell on it. She shouldn't be feeling that way towards Nyeve. The girl she grew up with, the girl she used to babysit, the girl who she saw as a little sister that she never had.
For now, she wanted to cherish this moment with Nyeve. Feelings should be dealt with later, or never.
Saph reached for Nyeve's face before she could even stop herself, tucking the flying strand of hair behind her ear which made Nyeve's cheek turn into pretty hues of pink.
"I'm happy too that I'm here with you, Rux Nyeve."
