CHAPTER EIGHT: Cowardice

Nyeve was absolutely having a lovely morning because pag-bukas pa lang ng mata niya, messages from Saph na agad ang bumungad sa kanya. She rose up from her bed with a grin as she reached for her phone to reply back to the older woman, not even bothering na tanggalin ang muta sa mata niya.

Her excitement towards Saph's messages never faded away, it remained consistent. Basta may notification galing kay Saph, agad agad niyang bubuksan yun at rereply-an siya with a huge grin on her face, lovesick as ever.

The older woman told her na wag na daw siya mag-breakfast dahil dadaanan niya ulit dito si Nyeve. Ihahatid daw siya sa school after they had their breakfast together outside.

Nyeve sprang up from her bed, rushing towards the bathroom to shower and prepare herself. Kailangan extra maganda siya ngayon because she would be with Saph.

Nyeve wore her pink blouse and black pants paired with white sneakers, kinulot pa niya ng kaunti ang buhok niya, and even poured extra minutes into her make-up but still made sure that it was light and natural looking, just highlighting her features.

After getting Saph's message na papunta na siya sa bahay nila, dali dali niyang kinuha ang bag niya at cellphone niya bago bumaba, dropping by the kitchen to tell the housemaids that she wouldn't be eating breakfast there at pinasabi na lang din niya sa mga kasambahay para sa mom niya na kasama niya si Saph papuntang school since her mother was most likely still asleep.

When Nyeve got out of her house, Saph was already waiting in her car, leaning against the door with her phone in her hand, looking so insanely dashing in her white short sleeved button up shirt and faded jeans, her hair was quite messy but it made her look hotter.

Tila naging hugis puso ang mga mata ni Nyeve noong nakita niya si Saph.

Pwede bang si Saph na lang ang breakfast niya? Charot.

"Good morning!" Nyeve chirped noong napansin siya ni Saph, jogging towards her with her usual bright grin, her heart fluttering because feel na feel niya talaga if sinusundo siya ni Saph — para kasing girlfriend niya na sinusundo siya every morning.

Kilig so much. Tototohanin nila yan soon, Nyeve swore to herself.

A smile formed in Saph's lips, "Morning, kiddo." She playfully greeted back at pinagbuksan siya ng pintuan.

Nyeve gave Saph a glare, here that older woman again with the 'kiddo', Saph loved to ruin her fantasies talaga, hmp. She hopped inside with a scoff but she smiled anyway as she buckled her seatbelt because she heard Saph's giggle before closing the door for her.

"Saan mo gusto kumain?" asked Saph as she drove, looking relaxed. Nyeve did notice that the latter looked tired than usual, para bang hindi siya nakatulog properly last night but Nyeve tried not to mind it because baka may tinapos lang siyang plates ng late.

Nyeve thought for a while, "I just want coffee and bread. How about jan sa Tim Hortons? Malapit lang." She said, and agad namang tumango si Saph, she would just agree to whatever Nyeve wanted anyway.

They went to the coffee shop at tumambay doon saglit kasi maya maya pa naman ang class ni Nyeve. Saph immediately ordered for them while she ushered Nyeve to sit so the latter just went to grab a vacant table sa labas at doon umupo, mahangin at medyo malamig pa naman sa labas.

When Saph returned, she got two hot coffee cups and a pair of sandwiches on the tray, giving Nyeve hers first. And they started to eat their breakfast wholeheartedly while talking about random things, like yung mapangit na naka-fling ni Wyna at yung naka-MU ni Nathan na two timer.

Saph stared at Nyeve who took a bite from her sandwich, and there were excess crumbs that stuck on the corner of her lips. Hindi napigilan ni Saph na tanggalin to, reaching for Nyeve's face to wipe it with her thumb.
