It's Friday today, finally. I'm not a full time employee nor am I a student, but even for me the weekdays can be draining. I'm putting the groceries in the trunk, for mom asked me to get some things that were missing.
Ever since she felt the shift in my life, she's been actively approaching me to run errands for her. Prior to that she tended to rely on the others. I'm not complaining though. Lately I've been liking the execution of mundane tasks because they keep me occupied but don't require too much effort. Above that, I can use a little bit of distraction after Wednesday night.
It took Lemon about an hour to run out of tears. Even after that she kept choking up. She had a lot of pent up emotions in her that needed an outlet. At first I didn't quite understand her reason to cry over a pregnancy.
I mean, I understand she might not be ready for motherhood in a couple of months and she's still a college student, yes, I get it. But to me she also comes across as a person that'd be delighted about it despite knowing the inconvenience it can cause. So the extent to which she cried didn't add up to me.
We were lying on our sides, facing each other after we cleaned ourselves. Her eyes were naturally swollen and her face wouldn't turn to its normal color for a while. It was then that she told me about her miscarriage.
The pregnancy stick on the counter in her bathroom was almost two months old. After taking the test, the stick had shown her she was two weeks pregnant. She was over the moon and not at all scared. She was looking for the perfect way to tell Kai and her parents, which took her longer than expected.
She was almost finished with her plan until one morning, she woke up in a puddle of blood. What had happened is out in the open. Lemon went into details about it, which was painful to hear.
The next day she decided to fly town to process this on her own accord. She used her aunt who lives far away as an excuse for her disappearance. She went to a hospital near the hotel to get an examination. The test unfortunately declared she's infertile. Her body didn't accept the fetus and it never will.
She was alone during this, which flooded my eyes with tears upon hearing. Any woman ought to have someone on her side, supporting her and comforting her. To my question why she hadn't told Kai, she explained she wanted to spare him the pain of loss.
She indirectly showed me the stick because she couldn't carry this burden alone anymore. She thinks of me as her sister and trusts me with her secret. In fact, I'm the first person she's confided to. She made me swear I don't tell anyone. I didn't have a choice. It's not my story to tell.
It was a heavy and exhausting night. I stayed over and left the next morning. Kai had entered the room in between to tell Lemon he was heading home after the long meeting had ended. Luckily the signs of her breakdown had faded for most part so it was just a natural greeting to him.
That brings us to the present. Even though we saw each other two days ago and have been texting back and forth, I'm a little worried about her. I think we have this unexplainable connection. The way she feels she can trust me with anything, I honestly feel the same way about her too. I have it with Blake as well. I never had this feeling with my past friends, just them.
Back home I carry the groceries inside and greet everyone in the living room as I pass them. Mom and dad were watching a documentary, Gio was playing on his Nintendo and Kai was on his laptop, probably working or studying. There was no sign of Madd. Probably upstairs, doing something innovative.
After I put the bags on the kitchen counter, I peek at Kai from behind the kitchen door. When my eyes meet his, I signal him to come over. We promised the rest we'd be making pizza tonight. It was actually Gio's idea. He loves our pizza. We just make it with extra love. And bickering.
