~Dakota's POV.~

I was outside, picking the good eggs from the chicken coop, when I hear the sound of footsteps approaching. I look up from my chores to see Lori from the outside of the chicken coop. "Hey." I greet her, flashing her a warm smile as I make my way out of the coop, closing the door behind me. "One of the women from our group, Carol, wanted to cook dinner tonight for your family. A thank you for everything you've all done for us. I was wondering what your thoughts on that were?" I couldn't help but let my smile grow at their kindness. "That's awfully kind. I'm sure my daddy would appreciate it." She returns my smile and pulls me into a quick hug before walking back to where their people had set up camp.

I walk the eggs back inside to the house and set them onto the table. While cleaning my hands free of muck, I feel a presence enter the room. I glance over my shoulder to see Maggie. "Dakota, can I talk to you?" Her tone was serious, making concern for my sister shoot through me. I nod, drying off my hands and following her into her room.

She closes the door gently before joining me on her bed. "What's wrong?" She sighs, running her hands down her face. "It's about the run into town yesterday..." I furrow my brows a bit, but stay silent letting her continue. "Glenn and I- well he had picked up condoms. And I saw he had 'em, and so, you know..." She stares at me, waiting for my response.

"In the pharmacy?! Maggie!" We both giggle, like we were talking about her old boyfriends back before the world ended. Talking about Maggie's sex life was nothing new to us, but I could tell this time was different from her stuttering. "That's not the point! The point is, what do I do from here?" She goes back to being serious like before. I couldn't help but to smile. "Well...did you like it?" She shrugs before huffing and throwing her head back into hands. "Listen, Maggie, it's okay to not know yet. Feel things out some more, you guys just met, you hardly know each other. Just enjoy it!" She smiles and jumps on top of me for a hug, before both of us get up to leave. "Oh! By the way, Rick's group is cooking for us tonight."

After a while, the sky starts to get darker and the kitchen to our old farm house starts to fill with women all over. Beth and I were grabbing plates and silverware to set the table. While the other women prepped for supper. "I never thought I'd be so happy to see a potato." Carol said in her sweet motherly voice of hers. Lori sighed happily. "I'm just glad we're not roasting squirrels over a fire in the woods."

Carol stopped cuting and looked over to me. "Thank you, Dakota, so much for letting us into your home." I nod with a smile before walking to the pantry to grab enough napkins, but my daddy stops me. "What's this?" I answer him while squeezing past to grab what I needed. "Lori and Carol are cooking supper for us all tonight." I can tell he was feeling a little agitated by this. "Well that's the first I've heard of it." I close the pantry and turn around to face him.

"I didn't think it was that big of a deal. They want to thank us for helpin' them." He leans down a bit and keeps his voice a whisper. "We need to be settin' clear boundaries with these people. They're gettin' a little too comfortable." I roll my eyes a bit before walking away. "It's just supper, daddy." When walking back to the table Maggie passes me and I hear daddy now lecturing her about Glenn. If only he knew what she had told me hours earlier.

I had just finished washing off my hands in the bathroom when I hear a gunshot go off. It was only the one shot; who the hell would waste the ammo? I fly through the door and down the hall making my way outside to see what the commotion was all about. "What on earth is goin' on out here?!" I hear my daddy holler and I run over to catch up with them. I couldn't quite tell what had happened, but they were carrying someone towards the house.

Andrea runs up with Glenn and T-dog and said she had shot Daryl, who I can now put a name to the face. I run ahead to the house, he needed medical attention fast. These people sure were going through our antibiotics and I sure as hell wasn't catching a break anytime soon. By the time they brought him in he had already gaining back consciousness again.
