~Daryl's POV.~
Sleep wasn't something I got often, not that I really cared, I functioned just fine. Last night- I slept good, for the first time in a long time I didn't have to fight to go to sleep. The morning was peaceful. My eyes slowly open and are met with the roof of my tent. I rub my eyes before I sit up, turning to my left I see her. Her messy brown all over the place and her small hands loosely clasped together beside her face.
I tear my eyes away, feeling a weird sensation in my stomach from watching the girls sleeping form. I slowly start to get out of bed, deciding it was time to get ready for the day. Shane, T-dog and I were supposed to head out and look for the others, make sure they're okay- bring 'em back home. I huff as I start to take my shirt off, glancing behind me once more to make sure the girl was still asleep.
~Dakota's POV.~
I was woken up to the sound of movement. Slowly opening my eyes and blinking to fully focus them, I remember that I was not in my room. I sit up a bit quickly and turn to where I had heard the movement to see a shirtless Daryl.
His back was facing me, not knowing that I had woken up. My eyes couldn't help but wander. His back was strong, I could make out every muscle with every movement he had made. I'm reminded once again of his scars, making me frown. He still had the bandage from his horse accident wrapped around his waist. "You should get that changed out." I say, letting him know I was awake.
He turns his head enough to look at me before grabbing his belt and putting it through the belt loops of his jeans. "M'sorry. Was tryin' to be quiet." I push the blanket off of me and stand up walking towards him just a bit. He goes to grab his shirt to put it on. Groaning a bit in pain from the stitches. "Daryl...let me help you?" He stops his hands from buttoning his sleeveless flannel and turns his body to face me. Our eyes lock before I finally close to space between us and begin to button up his shirt. I watch as he breathes in; his stomach tightens ever so slightly, showing the abs he had.
After taking my time to reach the last button I tilt my head upward to look him in the eyes. We stay there for a good while. I clear my throat, backing away from Daryl before I speak up. "Seriously Daryl, you need to let me switch that bandage out."
Everyone eventually rises from their sleep not long after. I was sat out on the porch, watching and waiting for the three men to head out. Daryl, Shane, and T-dog get ready to find my daddy, Glenn, and Rick. Before leaving, Daryl walks up the porch steps and stops right in front of me. I watch as his eyes slowly look me over. "You gonna be okay?" A soft smile fights its way onto my face with his words of care. "Can handle the farm on my own Mr. Dixon. Just be-" I stop talking when the sound of tires on a dirt road sounds through the quiet farm fields.
Daryl and I both turn to look out across the farm to see a familiar SUV come into view. They made it back. I rush past Daryl once the car comes to a stop. I break into a smile and almost tear up as I watch my daddy get out the passenger seat of the car. Nothing in that moment mattered more than my daddy being home safe and sound. "Daddy!!" We pull each other into a firm hug, one that I truly needed, but the hug didn't last long.
He quickly pulls away. "Dakota, Patricia, prepare the shed for surgery." My heartbeat picks up a bit, pulling back to see his shirt was stained red, but it wasn't his. My eyes scan over to Glenn and Rick, but neither of them were hurt either. Who was injured, and why perform the surgery in the shed? "Who the hell is that?" I glance to where T-dog had pointed, seeing a young boy in the back of the SUV, blindfolded. "That's Randell." Glenn says somewhere off behind me. A heavy sigh leaves past my lips as I make my way to the house, grabbing all my supplies.
