A soft knock rang through the wood of Y/N's door. When she didn't respond, another louder knock followed.
"One second," she called out to the knocker.
A short glance at the window confirmed her suspicions about this knock: that it was too damn early for anyone to be knocking at her door. It had been a couple of weeks since the exchange event incident, but Y/N was still tired. Or maybe she just enjoyed her beauty sleep. Y/N wrapped herself up in her blanket and got up to open the door slowly.
"Hey, L/N!" Itadori was way too smiley for this early in the morning.
"Oh," Y/N didn't know why she felt a tinge of disappointment, but seeing Itadori instead of the person she expected the early knocker to be killed a bit of excitement she didn't know she had. "Hey, Itadori. Do you need something?
"Actually, Gojo sent me to come get you. We've got an assignment."
"Is it really this urgent?"
"He's leaving on business at 8 AM and wants to brief us personally," Itadori gave her an apologetic look and left to go back to the conference room she was apparently meant to be at in 5 minutes.
"Really Gojo? 4 AM?" she sighed, "Could he at least have waited until the sun was up?"
There was no point in complaining any further, though. She was already awake and halfway ready for school.
Y/N rushed through her morning routine and was still fumbling around with the buttons on her jacket as she walked through the conference room door. Yuji, Megumi, and Gojo were all already conversing and Kugisaki stumbled in not long after Y/N.
"Alright," Gojo clapped his hands and called attention to the projector screen at the front of the room, "We have no time to waste."
"You doing alright?" Fushiguro whispered to her as she took a seat beside him.
"Yep, just half asleep," she whispered back.
"Your assignment is on an abandoned commercial fishing ship that resides in the abandoned shipyard out at the edge of the harbor. It's a trawler boat, which means the kind of fishing boat with the big nets that catch fish. There have been multiple reports of missing people, unusual creaking, and abnormal rocking of the boat. One person even claimed to see the arms that hold the nets moving."
"Wait-" Kugisaki cut in, "Rocking of the boat? Aren't these boats super heavy?"
Before Gojo could respond, Itadori jumped up.
"They normally weigh about 40 to 50 tons. I looked it up!"
"Yep, the kid is right."
"Does that mean this is a really strong curse?" Y/N asked.
"Well, the higher ups have it classified as a grade 3..."
All four first years gave him a blank stare.
"I know." Gojo gave them a sympathetic look, "I can't promise that it's an accurate rating."
A collective sigh filled the room. Gojo continued debriefing them on what information he knew until the sun was nearly all the way up. The ship was expansive but had been abandoned over a year ago and there was bound to be unexpected critters and rust. Their main purpose was to identify if there were any curses present and attempt to locate the missing people.
"I have to leave now to catch my train, but I need you all to promise me something. If you are outmatched, run. Call me and run."
"We promise, Gojo," Fushiguro spoke for the group.
