In the Princess' boudoir, the dim light covers them with softness. The flickering flame of the candelabra dancing in rythm with the heartbeat of the man. Alone, he made his way through the Court and her heart, deserving of this fated meeting. He asked her the only question he had in mind and now silence was all he could be.
Waiting for an answer.
The Princess' surprise quickly turned into a smile as she gazed at his helpless expression. He was a condemned man, waiting for her royal judgement All she had to do was answer.
« But, I don't have much use for a groom or a Prince for now... » she said.
Her voice was as innocent as a child's, her words as sharp as daggers. Blighted hope come rushing down the man's face, quickly damed by her next sentence.
« Although I long for a pet for some times now. »
Disapointment changed for surprise and, uncannily fast, turned into determination. Like doubt never had a place in his heart.
« As the Princess wishes, as long as I get to stay by your side. »
With a flick of the wrist, her delicate fingers hanged above the void, waiting to be gently carressed by the breath of her new Liege.
But the Princess was fickle, and as soon as the man extended his hand, hers faded from his grasp, her lips pinched in a thoughtfull expression.
« Now that I think about it... a pet should not be high enough to kiss my hand... »
Only a second passed before the new-found Liege bent the knees. The Princess, satisfied, raised her foot. As it was meant to be.
