"Oh my god! Let me do it!" I hissed and shoved my friends back from door. "Don't any of you know how to open a goddamn door?" I groaned before turning the nob and pushing it. "It's push...not pull!" I sighed. "This is going to be a long night bozos."
Xavier mimicked me putting a hand on his hip in a sassy-like stance.
I shot him the finger.
I received a dirty look for that one.Holding open the door I pushed Xavier, Mikey and Jackson through but Toby didn't. I turned around slowly to face him. Confusion going through me. "Aren't you going go too?"
He shook his head,
"Toby, you're the one who had the idea to come here."
He smiled, "I know."
He pulled the door closed his smile growing as his hands slid onto my hips.
I turned my head away, a playful smile dying to break out on my face.
"I'm still mad that you made a short joke..."
He brought one of his hands up and lifted my chin up to look back towards him.
I stared into his big hazel eyes, they shined in the light given off from the flashlight I was still holding.
He leaned down quickly and kissed me gently.
"I love you," he said as he pulled away, "You know that."I smiled as he hugged me close, his chin resting on the top of my head.
"I know...Now lets cut this out, remember this is an adventure and not a romantic get away!"
I slipped out of his arms, opened the door and dashed up the stairs before he could catch me.
"Jane..." I heard him groan from behind me. "Babe you kill me..."
I laughed. "C'mon Toby!"
He dashed up the stairs and threw his arm over my shoulder; almost knocking me over in the process.
"Let's do this," He smiled.___________________________
"Hey Guys! I found an Arcade!" Xavier grinned as he ran up to us. "It's all the good all old stuff from when our 'rents were kids."
I lifted an eyebrow quizzically, pointing the flashlight away from Xavier's excited face. "Really?"
Jackson appeared from behind the Pac-Man arcade game, a big grin on his face. "It's extremely cool actually."
I nodded, feeling both exhausted and frankly bored.
"Well, Guys, it's kinda getting late, we've been here for at least an hour wanna call it a night? Maybe come back after it opens?"
Mikey joined us from the hall, a graphic novel clenched tightly in his hand. "Yes, please, this place gives me the creeps!"
"Haha, It's alright Mikey." Toby gave him a comforting pat on the shoulder. "We'll be heading out any minute now."
"Speaking of minute; Jane, what time is it?"
I pulled my phone out of my pocket almost instantly, flipping it open my eyes widened in shock. "It's 11:48pm. We better get going guys, before our parents flip about curfew.""Back through the basement window?" Jackson suggested.
"Yeah, it's our best option." Xavier agreed; swinging his backpack over his shoulder.Together the five of us headed back down to the basement. The excitement of the adventure was more fun than it actually had been. At this point we were all starting to get pretty bored and pretty anxious on what our parents would think.
Jackson being the tallest of all of us went over to open the window so we could leave.
"Uh, guys? We have a bit of a problem." Jackson said as he looked back at us; his brown eyes full of mild panic.
"What is it Jackson?" Mikey asked sounding slightly concerned.
"The window won't open..."
My mouth fell open as the words registered in my brain.
Rolling the long sleeves of my sweater up I shook my head. "The latch to my bedroom gets stuck all the time you probably just did it wrong."
I shook my head disappointed at Jackson, tying my long brunette hair into a bun so it would stay out of the way, I looked at Toby to give me a boost onto the table under the window.
After a few minutes of the trying to manipulate the lock I punched the window. "Goddammit!" I hissed, "We're trapped in here guys. My mom is going to kill me if I don't come home!"
Toby helped me down from the table wrapping his arm around my shoulders, "Shhhhh, hun. It's going to be fine."
Tears came to my eyes, as I thought of how worried she'll be.
Xavier, Jackson and Mikey looked awkward as I slowly wiped my eyes. I knew I seemed more hysterical than needed but they didn't get it—my mom always dropped the gun and thought it was the worse case scenario.
"So...What do we do?" Mikey asked
Xavier replied, "Sit here I suppose,"
"All night?" Jackson asked. "I'm supposed to be home by one at the latest..."
"I don't wanna stay in this basement. It's kind of cold. Creeper than it is upstairs too. Lets go back up. It's probably the safer option. Less likely to step on a rusty nail." Toby nudged me slightly.
"Alright," I reached forward grabbing my bag off the floor, "I'll try to call my mom and explain."___________________________
We all sat upstairs in the old party room, there was a bunch of old stuffed animals in there that I used as a makeshift bed.
I had tried to call my mother only to be met with a dial tone that said my phone was not in service.
I laid there in annoyance, silently wishing I was anywhere but here right now.
"How long are we gonna be stuck in here for?" Jackson groaned from across the room, I glanced over to see my childhood best friend staring up at the ceiling. In a position similar to mine. Except he had his flashlight in hand. Clicking it on and off like a strobe light."What time is it now Jane..." Xavier mumbled, sounding exhausted.
"It's 11:59" I said in a small voice as I shut my phone again.
"So basically Midnight," Jackson stuck out his tongue and tossed his flashlight aside.
"Midnight's when they attack..." Mikey muttered.
Xavier, Toby and Jackson yelled in perfect unison, "SHUT UP MIKEY!"
"Seriously man that ghost story shit is getting old." Xavier added in a disgusted tone.
I checked my phone again. Still no signal.
Just. Perfect.
Thump.
Bang.
Crash.I jumped, looking over at my friends who were spread across the small party room. All of them frozen in shock.
"What the hell was that?" Toby whispered.
