The usual bustling streets now lay eerily quiet, the aftermath of a Keapers ruthless act. I didn't see it happen, but the echo of the gunshot rippled through the air inciting a surge of chaos among those in earshot. though we all knew what it was, the Impure law had been broken and the consequences hung heavy in the air for all those involved.

Amid the chaotic bodies fleeing in all directions. I caught a glimpse of her. There she lay face down on the sidewalk, blood seeping from the fatal wound on her forehead. The contents of her purse lay scattered around her body. A testament to the activities that occupied her just moments before. Was she searching for her keys, or perhaps she planned to reapply her lipstick? Her final moments were now nothing more than a whisper in the wind lost in the chaos.

Her eyes remain open, holding the frozen reflection of the world she saw before her face met the pavement. I don't dwell for too long. I have no desire of being a Keapers next target. I haven't broken any law that warrants execution, but their sadistic whims leave room for other forms of suffering and I'm in no mood to become their source of amusement.

What's left of the crowd swiftly adverts their eyes, refusing a second glance at the young girl who can't be more than sixteen, lying lifeless on the pavement. Not from the lack of compassion, but the collective understanding of the unspoken rule: don't get involved.

As I round the corner toward my apartment building, I see them lift the girl's body and callously toss it in the back of their van.

I never understood why people broke the Impure law, it's not something you accidentally break. Is forbidden love really worth getting yourself killed over? A daring rebellion against the societal norms, for the fleeting moments of passion. The reality of our society is that everyone gets caught, and the payment for such crimes, whether immediate or delayed, is inevitable.
