"I.. love.. you.." Her face twisted with pain. "It-it wasn't.. supposed to be this way.."

"You're gonna be fine," Lie.

"He stabbed me."

"I know."

"I'm so.. so-sorry." Pained breaths. Trembling lips. Tears rolling down paling cheeks. "I will... always love.. you."

"Don't talk like that. You'll be fine." Another Lie.

Eyes fluttering. Then closing.

"No! No, baby come on.. please.. please.. open your eyes!" Throat closing.

"Come back." Heart breaking.

"Don't go where I can't follow.."

"Dove!" I hear myself scream as I bolt upright in the bed.

I didn't realize I had fallen asleep. But I suppose after three days of not sleeping, passing out was bound to happen, even if I had been pumping myself full of caffeine.

My dreams were turning into nightmares. Even my thoughts were starting to attack me when I was awake. I was seeing Dove more and more, she was moving around with me. Walking with me. Sitting with me. Staring at me.

It felt like she wanted to tell me something. But she never did.

After the diner, she hadn't spoken much. She had watched me with a sad look on her face, and a pitying smile on her lips. Her eyes always looked like she was about to cry. I would notice her reaching for me, then pulling her hand away as if she had forgotten that she couldn't touch me.

Sometimes I could swear that I could feel her. A sudden coolness that would cover my hand, or shoulder, or my cheek when I closed my eyes.

But then it was gone. I would close my eyes. Get distracted. Stop looking at her for longer than a few seconds. And she would disappear.

My memories of her were disjointed. Sometimes I would remember things in the order they happened. Other times, I would go backward, watching her die again.
