The sunlight was already peaking through the blinds, when the atrocious sound of the 7am alarm rang through the small apartment.
With disdain I got up from bed and tried to find my glasses that were supposed to be on my bedside table. And they were thankfully.
I sorted through the pile of clothes, trying to find something acceptable t wear. Finally I settled onto a button up and a pair of trousers.Suddenly my twin brother jolted up on the bed with a start. He looked around panicked.
"Addie?" He asked, all traces of sleep disappearing.
"Morning, Eugene. Bad dream?" I asked.
He only hummed. Eugene always suffered from nightmares, ever since we were little. I mean he had every right to do so, considering what we both went through."I'll be in the kitchen." I said and headed there. "Do you want coffee or tea?"
Coffee please. He signed. He always didn't speak much. There were times when Eugene went completely non-verbal. For those times we both learned sign language. Eugene didn't need to rely on his voice that much and we could communicate just fine. Outside he used his voice almost normally, since not many people knew how to read sign, so he didn't have much of a choice. The smell of two freshly brewed cups of coffee filled the flat.
"Addie?" My brother popped his head into the kitchen.
"Yes?" I asked.
"H-have you seen my glasses?"
"I have."
"W-where!?"
"On your table."
"Cheers."When he came into the kitchen he wore his typical red hoodie and shorts for whatever reason. His hair as always an unruly mess.
How is it that my glasses always disappear? Eugene signed and grabbed the steaming cup.
"It's more like you can't see them..." I noted.
Well, I know I am blind as bat, but you have literally nothing to blame me for, since you are maybe even more blind then me...
"If it helps you sleep..." I grinned, "and hurry up, we'll be late."
I got up and put the empty mug in the sink. A pile of dirty dishes was waiting for us to be cleaned.
"And you're on dish duty this week, don't forget. The pile is literally begging me to be washed." I called out as I grabbed my bag and a jacket of the hook.
"Then w-wash it!" He shouted from somewhere. We arrived at the underground station just in time for the train. We squeezed onto the empty seats next to our classmates.
"Ugh, I am so sleepy..." I overheard Luke complaining. That was strange. He always looked like he has enough energy for three other people.I wanted to ask what was wrong but then again, he probably didn't really know who I was. Most of his classes were with Eugene, not me. All we had together was English and French. That was it. So I kept my mouth shut and decided to not bother myself with it.
Most of the day was pretty boring. Not many people payed much attention to me, not that it bothered me. For most of them I was the quiet kid sitting in the middle of the classroom, never participating, yet always coming on top of the class. Getting good grades guaranteed me that the teachers left me alone majority of the class.
I was waiting for my Maths class when the girl sitting in front of me turned around.
"Hey, Addie?"
"What's up, Joy?" I raised my eyes from the sketchbook to look at the girl.
"Do you by any chance have the assignment for Bio for tomorrow?" She asked.
"Yea."
"Could you please help me a bit? I am at a dead end."
"Sure. Should I send it to you?" I promised.
"That would be grand. Thanks. You're the best." She smiled.
"No worries. I'll do that once I'll get home."Joy was truly a joy to be around. She would be probably the only person I would consider my friend. She was smart, kind and actually pretty funny. We shared most of our classes and played in the school orchestra together. Though our interactions were usually limited to asking for help on assignments or when we needed a lab partner. Nevertheless she was always really nice to everyone.
