Katsuki was innocently practicing his fucking aim when Katsuma-nii came up behind him. What the fuck did he want this time?

He stood there for a minute before saying anything. He had that weird look on his face that Katsuki was unfamiliar with on his own face. The kind that said he was about to try and have a serious conversation about feelings. He had approached him with the same expression right before Himiko-nee’s adoption, and Katsuki saw him go up to Mikumo with that face on a lot, usually before they went and hid in their room, presumably so they could talk about future shit.

“Well?” Katsuki demanded, after a few moments of silence.

“Every kid in your class wants to be a hero,” Katsuma-nii said.

“Yeah, and?”

“So why is it that Izuku is the only one you’ve ever felt threatened by?”

“WHAT?” Katsuki shouted. He was not fucking threatened by shitty Deku!

Except that he apparently had been chosen as All Might’s fucking successor. On his own merits, in the original timeline, even if in this one it was on Mikumo’s recommendation.

Mikumo’s… and Katsuma-nii’s. How the hell had Katsuki’s opinion of Deku shifted so much? Twelve years was enough to fall in love with the fucking shitstain that insisted on looking down on him? It didn’t make any sense. Katsuki did his best not to think about it.

“Look, if you didn’t feel threatened by Izuku, then you wouldn’t have been bothered by his want to become a hero, even before you both learned about OFA.”

“Shut the fuck up.”

“Just think about it,” Katsuma-nii insisted, walking away. He joined Mikumo at the edge of the beach, and they shared a quick kiss before heading off to patrol. Gross. Katsuki hated seeing that shit.

Katsuki hated a lot about the situation. Deku had been chosen to inherit the strongest quirk in Japan. Apparently his future self would fall in love with the kid he hated. He had picked up calling his future self with the -nii suffix from Himiko-nee after she was adopted, which irritated him, and made Katsuma-nii smug as fuck, which irritated Katsuki more.

And now his future self thought he felt fucking threatened by Deku! Before he had learned about OFA! Bullshit!

… Except that his future self had been him, and probably remembered being him, and that meant he knew what the fuck he was talking about.

Katsuki let another explosion decimate a microwave. The trash pile tumbled down to the right, which was safely away from any people standing on the beach. Good.

Unfortunately, as he kept thinking about it, Katsuma-nii’s words kept making more sense. He didn’t care when the extras in class declared that they would be heroes. So why was it different when Deku did it?

Was it because he and Deku were childhood friends? Technically, he still had two other childhood friends in class. But they didn’t really use that term between the three of them, even though everybody referred to Katsuki and Deku as childhood friends.

Maybe it was because their moms knew each other? Katsuki had seen Deku a lot more than he had Fingers or Undercut growing up. Was that it? He and Deku had that shared obsession with All Might, too, which was kind of weird to think about now that they actually knew the man.

But Deku insisting he would be a hero, just like Katsuki, was just so condescending! Before OFA, he had no guarantees! Nobody had heard of a quirkless hero, and they never would, because it was ridiculous. Katsuki had the perfect quirk to be a hero! Everyone had told him that his entire life! And he made it better. He honed it, he aimed for perfection, he excelled. Perfect quirk, perfect record, perfect grades. Perfect fucking everything except his condescending shit of a childhood friend.
