|The First Day|
"There they are, darling." Grell smiled, running her fingers through her wife's hair, which was still just slightly damp with sweat as she watched the two nurses roll in their little ones.
Resting in two incubators, swaddled in pink and blue. Poppy and Sorrel, their two miracles they weren't even sure they'd ever get to meet.
"Oh...!" Y/N exhaled a shaky breath, leaning into her but also reaching out towards them.
One nurse, a brunette woman, checked the monitors before going to gently lift Sorrel into her hold. The other, an ash blonde, nearly taupe haired man picked up Poppy slowly and approached. "Are you ready?"
"Do you feel okay to?" The redhead asked, but then chuckled when she saw the smaller woman had already started adjusting her arms.
The man, his name tag reading Edward, maneuvered the pink wrapped infant into Y/N's arms. "Support- Good, good! You're a natural!"
"Of course she is!" Grell rolled her eyes at the comment, it was obvious to her her wife would be.
The woman, her name tag reading Annabelle, interrupted the little fit of irritation by handing the little blue bundle to her. She blinked in surprise, looking slightly unnerved at the easy, seemingly experienced way the new mother took her child. She said nothing, though, standing back quickly.
"Grell... Grell, look at them!" Teary, Y/N snuggled Poppy close and leaned against her wife, looking between both babies.
"Oh my..." Her long, slender fingers traced the tiny face of her son, chuckling when he squirmed and made a breathy sound.
The two nurses exchanged a few glances, smiling at each other, the unsettled look of the one vanishing at the pure love radiating from the couple. They both knew of the Jack The Ripper incident, there wasn't a single reaper that didn't, but it couldn't be denied. It was a beacon in the center of the room. They also knew how tumultuous the journey to get to this point had been for the two women, gossip of the previous failed pregnancy had spread fast, as most gossip did among the divisions.
"Hello, sweetheart," Y/N whispered while trying her best not to cry, "I'm mama. We're mamas!"
That did it. Grell's shoulders shook slightly as she began to cry, not letting her arms shake and jostle Sorrel, smiling wide. "Yes... Yes, we're mamas..."
"Nn..." Poppy began to fuss slightly, her little face scrunching as she wriggled the bit she could in her pink swaddling.
Annabelle walked back over, coming to Y/N's side this time around. "Here, like this, she's hungry."
"Sorrel, are you copying your sister already?" Grell quickly adjusted her hold when the baby in blue started to follow suit.
Chuckling, the nurse commented as she helped get Poppy into place. "The first three days or so neither will eat much each feeding, after that, if she doesn't produce enough or one gets too upset waiting, you can supplement with formula."
"I recommend asking one of the higher ups for permission for a suitable one from a better period rather than getting one currently available in the human realm." Edward said, filling out a paper on a clipboard.
"Why?" Y/N asked, curious, then made a face at the odd sensation of her child feeding from her successfully.
Giggling at the expression, her wife kissed her cheek. "Quality difference, my love."
