Here's your warning: this chapter is a lot. If you've seen Alice in Borderland season 2 episode 7, then you know the gist of what's about to happen. It's a long chapter; no rush, takes breaks appropriately, and swear at me as much as you want when you're done <3
.
After realizing that Erwin never really specified a time to meet up, you and Levi decide to leave once the sun comes up.
You checked again this morning: the King of Spades, the King of Hearts, and the Queen of Hearts are all still up there. Three left, but somehow, they feel like three of the worst ones. The King of Spades just feels impossible. Hearts games just give you a ridiculous amount of anxiety in general- let alone what will likely be the two toughest ones.
Maybe all three will go down by the time we get there, you ponder on the walk over to the hotel. Wouldn't that be nice.
The urge to hold Levi's hand is strong, but he's extremely on guard today. He's made a point of taking the lead and he's constantly flexing his fingers. He's got the gun you grabbed tucked into the waistband of his dark pants, only slightly covered by the grey shirt he's wearing. You feel a bit better having that- especially since Levi's apparently well-versed with guns. Hopefully this one is a kind he's used before.
The hotel's not far, and you get there within fifteen minutes of walking. When you step into the hotel lobby, Erwin's already there, leaning against the reception desk.
His eyes meet yours, and he smiles. "You came."
Not even you're alive, which you feel would've been a more appropriate starter. "Yeah, well," you say with a shrug. "We're close to the end."
"We are." His eyes flicker to Levi. "How are you both doing? Injured at all?"
He doesn't seem surprised to see you two together. "We're fine," Levi replies casually.
When he doesn't add anything else, you tack on, "how about you?"
"Fine. But I wasn't the one doing spades games," Erwin reminds you. "I figured you would stick together, so your risk was lowered, but injuries still happen."
So that whole speech about splitting up was all bullshit, then. "Close call with the King of Spades yesterday," you say, ignoring his assumption, "but otherwise, we've been fine. Have you seen Hange?"
"Not since we split up."
"They'll be fine," Levi mutters.
You appreciate the reassurance, but you won't believe it until you see them.
It takes a while, but eventually, Hange does come through the lobby's main doors. Your shoulders finally relax and you stumble across the lobby. "Hange," you say quickly, "I'm so glad you're okay."
"Oh, me too honey," Hange says, and they hug you back briefly. "Uninjured?"
"Yeah. All of us are," you add, pulling back. You frown; Hange looks troubled. "Are you okay?"
"Sure. Yeah, I mean..." they trail off, looking behind them; then, they look back to you. "Physically, yes," Hange says firmly, pulling their backpack off and setting it on the ground. "I don't know, I've just been on edge."
"On edge," Erwin repeats.
"Yeah. Just feels like I'm being followed. I know, I'm crazy-"
"Who the hell would be following you?" Levi interrupts, frowning.
Hange's eyes light up. "Oh my god. Speaking of- you'll never guess who I ran into in the King of Clubs."
You frown. "Who?"
