The tension in your apartment is so unbearable that the two of you end up heading to a game sooner than you were originally planning to.
When you completed the ten of hearts, you got ten days on your visa. One of those nights, you spent at the Beach, talking with Levi and passing out while the resort burned down. Originally, you had hoped to waste away five or six more days in your apartment before you could muster up the courage to join a game.
Five or six days actually ends up being two. The morning after you invited Levi to sleep in your bed, you wake up to him already out of bed and making breakfast. Having the time to yourself is nice, if not just to digest the events of yesterday.
You weigh your options. Getting him to teach you something about self-defense again doesn't seem like a great idea, given how much physical contact that would require. But sitting in your apartment all day with him also doesn't seem good for your emotional health. So, the best option...
You don't even get the chance to ask. You've barely opened your door when Levi calls from the kitchen, "want to hit up a game today?"
"Read my mind," you say gratefully, and you quip a quick 'thank you' when he hands you a mug. "I can head to the roof and take a look at the blimps. See what's closest."
He hums in agreement. "Preference?"
"Of?"
"Spades or hearts."
Levi's looking at you now. Almost as quickly as the two of you make eye contact, you both look away. Jesus. You have to get your shit together.
In response to his answer, though- you're not sure an emotional game is the best option. Spades is your gut answer. "Not really," is the lie that comes out of your mouth. "I'll just look and see what's close."
"Alright," Levi agrees, and he slips by you, likely heading to the bathroom.
You press your free hand to the side of your face and sigh. After a long sip of your tea, you slide on your shoes and head up the roof.
It's a long set of stairs, but the view from the top of your apartment building is worth it. It's not tall enough to even think about comparing to some of the other skyscrapers in the vicinity, but it's still enough for a great view. Unfortunately, the sky's rather ugly and grey- likely a product of last night's storm.
The King of Spades, thankfully, is quite far away. However, most of the blimps are quite far. Actually, one of them isn't there- where did the King of Clubs go?
Is it down already? "Hell yeah," you mutter to yourself. One down, eleven to go.
Only two blimps actually look close enough to seriously consider without walking over an hour. One of them is the Queen of Diamonds, and that one, you're content to leave to Erwin.
The other is the Jack of Hearts.
While hearts isn't your first choice, it's the closest, and with the weather looking as miserable as it is, you don't want to get caught walking for hours in the rain. "Hearts?" you say aloud. "Really?"
It'll be fine. It's just a jack. If these face cards follow the same hierarchy, then theoretically, jacks will be the easiest and kings will be the hardest. Okay. Maybe this is a good idea, for now.
You ponder your thoughts as you head back down the stairs. Hearts. You never thought you'd be hoping for a spades game, but honestly, that might've been the easiest option considering the state of your and Levi's relationship.
Relationship. God, the word's enough to give you jitters.
You open the door to your apartment and Levi's in the living room, dressed. Long-sleeved grey shirt, dark pants, combat boots. "Verdict?" he asks, crossing his arms.
