Chapter 1:The Incident

Let's go back a few years ago...

It was a cool, dark Fall evening.
The sky was black, there was no moon, but the stars twinkled and danced in the night.

I was sitting at Neo-Star Country railway station, on the Metropolis - Neo-Star World line, I was assigned to ex-Southern Railway #31410 N class 2-6-0 mogul.

The train I had been assigned to was a express goods, but it was running very late, I looked at my watch... "11:26 pm", "1 hour & 56 minutes late.", I said in a bored voice, funnily enough, I had actually been rather early to the station.

A few hours ago, I was getting ready for the trip, I had put on my usual railway uniform, and had just placed my cap on my head when I looked at my watch, and was shocked, it was "8:00 pm", "Oh dear, I'm gonna be late!", I said, I quickly rushed to finish getting ready, once I did, I raced down the stairs, quickly gave a kiss to my Giant daughter Miku goodbye, hopped into my car "Christine", and drove as quickly as I could to get to the station, but when I got there the station master was surprised and told me that I was, "11 hours and 9 minutes early.", for I had arrived at "8:39 pm" when the arrival time for the goods train was actually "9:30 pm", which I blush with embarrassment, but I brushed it off and got over it and soon checked in and was soon in my engine (that had been brought to Neo-Star Country station from the nearby engine sheds) waiting for the train.

But it was then I knew the reason why I was assigned to this job, for the engine (a class 28 'Co-Bo' diesel-electric) was having troubles with its diesel motor and constantly breaking down, which in turn caused the whole train to be late, making the term 'Express Goods' quite like a joke, in the meantime I kept the fire stoked since there wasn't a fireman to do it, but then I thought about one of my clones, and so with a twist of my watch casing, a blue scanner like ray escaped from my watch and built an exact Clone of myself, "Hello Cameron.", he said cheerfully (These Clones were used to confuse enemies and act as a personal assistant when the time came and respected their duty as My Clones.), "Hey Clone.", I replied, then I explained, "I've been assigned to pull a goods train and I need a fireman to keep the fire going and keep the steam in check.", "Don't worry,...", smiled My Clone, "...I'm just the guy that can do it.", I smiled broadly, and soon with the snap of his fingers, he too was in railway uniform, and stoking the fire in the firebox.

Finally, just an hour later, the train pulled into Neo-Star Country station, and everyone soon got to work. The diesel was uncoupled from the train and place on a siding out of the way, then Me and My Clone moved over the crossings and backed on the 45 car train, the Switchman (Shunter) fasten the coupling, the signal dropped, the Conductor (Guard) blew his whistle and showed his green lantern, and we were off to make up for lost time.

I opened the regulator (throttle) and the train began to move, though it was a bit of a slow start, the train was indeed heavy and fully loaded with lots of cargo (pipes, cables, fuel, minerals, and many other things), I had to apply sand on the rails to help the wheels get a better grip as they kept slipping, struggling to get the train moving, soon the train was on its way to Neo-Star World City and picking up speed, this train had to be right on time, and I was willing to make up the lost time, though little did I know, that this would be a train ride I would never forget.

The train was moving at a great pace as I tried to gain some of the lost time.

We whooshed under bridges, and clattered past signal boxes, with green signal lights saying "All Clear" which was good for us as we were trying to make up for lost time.

Soon we began to to approach Neo-Star World City where the train was to pass through and then continue on towards Cordele GA, (where the train would stop, drop them off, and then we could go back home), that was the plan, but unfortunately for me, it wasn't going to be happening on this night.

We managed to slip through the big railway yard, passed the engine sheds and roundhouse, and passed the main terminus on the through platform and were soon on the city tramway line, there were lots of people and road traffic in the streets so we had to slow the train so is not to run into them, the cars, buses, and trucks had to either stop or move out of the way as soon as possible, the pedestrians had to take extra caution because of the additional train gliding through the streets, once the train had safely passed the area everyone went back to their usual business, though as we came to a steady bend that went to the right, there was a sudden change in the area, as the train went along, the people and road vehicles seemed to become less and less, "We must be entering the dark side of the town?", Said My Clone, "No, I've been through here before.", I replied with a concerned tone, "Something must be happening ahead of us, I think it's best if we took extra caution?", And I slowed the train down to a jogging pace so is to stop in case there was trouble, and there was, as soon as the train made it fully around the bend, there in front of us was a big, blue, glowing dimensional portal, I was amazed, and quickly applied the locomotives brakes, but nothing happened, it was then we felt the train jerk forward and quickly begin to gather speed, the brakes not even affecting it, My Clone tried the air brakes, still nothing, I then I threw the train into reverse, but still the train kept picking up speed, it was as if that we were being sucked into the portal, we began to panic, and desperately fiddled with the controls trying to stop the train from entering the portal, in the BrakeVan (Caboose) the Conductor (Guard) realized what was happening and tried to apply his Vans (Cabooses) brakes, but though it was working just fine, it wasn't enough to stop the train, and it skidded along with sparks flying as it was dragged along the rails, the mouth of the portal came nearer and nearer, and the light was beginning to blind us, but Me and My Clone kept doing our best to stop the train, but it was no use, nothing was working, "HANG ON,...", I shouted "...WE'RE GOING IIIIINNNN!!!!!", And we screamed with the engines loud shrieking whistle as the train rocketed into the portal, it looked as if the whole train was going to be sent to another world, but the portal suddenly closed into an firework explosion and the last 10 wagons plus the BrakeVan (Caboose) jumped the tracks and crashed into the street, luckily no one was hurt, but it was a terrible mess, the Conductor (Guard) dizzily stumbled out of his Van (Caboose) and looked to where the head of the train was, but all that he saw was just the wrecked wagons and nothing more, a group of the citizens came out from their homes and from the other side of the city and on to the scene, they asked; "What happened here?", but the Conductor (Guard) had no clue what had happened, and where the rest of the train had gone, it just simply vanished from sight, little did anyone know, that somewhere in space and time, a train was flying through a wormhole with 1 Boy and a Clone along for the ride.
