Nancy

Her face was the centre of my nightmares but also my dreams.

I couldn't close my eyes without seeing hers stare right back at me; big and hopeful.

Sad and heartbroken.

Work was no longer enjoyable; it became repetitive and irritating and more often than not I was cursing or tearing pieces of paper apart.

"Hey!" Laura called as I walked into the print room that morning.

"Hey," I muttered back, already hyperfocused on the pile of envelopes that had been delivered on the table.

"Don't, uh, don't worry about those. I'll deal with them. But...can we talk? Please?" she asked me and I looked up, with an expression of what must have been confusion on my face.

Laura barely spoke a word to me; most of our work was done in complete silence.

The way I liked it.

"Uh...yeah? Sure? What do you need?"

She paused for a second, before looking me in the eye.

"Did you break up with your boyfriend?"

The question caught me off guard and I stared back at her in shock.

"E-excuse me?"

"Sorry, I know it sounds personal but its just that you've been so distant this past week and I barely know you but it just feels like there's something going on. I...I'm sorry I shouldn't have said anything," she muttered hastily.

"No. No, its fine. And uh, yeah. Kind of,"

"Oh! I thought so, but I didn't really want to ask. Um...well, if it makes you feel any better, mine broke up with me the other day too,"

I smiled sadly.

"I'm sorry,"

"No! No its fine...he was kind of an a*shole, not gonna lie. But I miss him. A lot. How about you?"

I sighed.

"Yeah. Same. Its like I cant stop seeing he- his face over and over again. But its my fault. Why we broke up I mean,"

"You know...my grandmother used to say something about breakups and love and stuff and when I was little I used to think it was stupid but...now I guess it kinda makes sense,"

I laughed a little, smiling at her.

"What was it?"

"Love always wins. I guess what she was trying to say is that even if something seems broken and done, if you really love that person and they really love you back, it will happen. Love wins," Laura said with a sad smile.

And then it clicked.

Everything fell into place inside of my head; jigsaw pieces finally connecting after days of uncertainty.

I reached for my bag that was strewn over the back of my chair.

"W-where are you going?" Laura stuttered, confused.

I looked back at her.

"To go make sure love wins this time,"

She grinned.

"Good luck!"

"Thanks,"

And then I left.

I knew exactly where she would be, an instinct inside of me pulling me there towards her.

Everything made sense now and I knew what I needed to do.

I needed to find her.

I was running now, heels in my hand as the ground beneath me burnt my bare feet.

But I didn't care.

I needed to find her.

Racing inside the building, the cool linoleum wonderous against my burnt feet, I ran up the stairs to the roof.

And there she was.

The girl I had lost.

The one I needed to find.

Robin.

"Nancy?" she whispered as if she couldn't believe I was here. Tears were evident in her liquid eyes and I found them in mine too.

"Hi."

She stood and walked towards me, the two of us so close it was almost terrifying.

And then I kissed her.

The two of us; passionate and broken and desperate.

"I love you," she whispered.

"I love you too,"

And I was happy.

I was complete, the two of us on top of the world together.

We were found.

(A/N: YAYAYAYAYAYAYA! Its not all depressing anymore! Now all we need is for El and Max to do the same. But will it be that simple? Dun dun DUNNNNN- lol. Stay safe and totally tubular and I'll see you all in the next one xx)
