When I entered my kindergarten classroom, I saw Poppy sitting at a desk coloring a Care Bear picture in a dress that had a teddy bear on it. My mom didn't tell me we would be in the same class.
The summer before kindergarten started my mom made me play with Poppy because Chloe, my older sister, was best friends with Poppy's sister, Kennedy.
I tried explaining to my mom that I didn't want to play with a girl because it wouldn't be any fun. What 5 year old actually wants to be around a girl? At the time I just didn't think it would be worth my time... but I was wrong.
Poppy came over to my house for the first time in the Summer of 1999. While Chole and Kennedy were off playing with their American Girl Dolls, Poppy and I were in my room jumping on my bed listening to, what I found out that day was both our favorite band, N'Sync!
My entire house was flooded with the sound of us laughing and singing 'Tearin' Up My Heart'. If I would've known what I know now, I wouldn't have been laughing while singing that song with her.
(writers note. I have really struggled with writing from Elliott's view point but I feel like I need to in order to give adequate back story for both characters.)
