The room was filled with a tense silence, broken only by the occasional whispers and the sound of our own breaths. I was sitting next to Su Hyeok, our hands intertwined. His grip was firm, providing a sense of comfort amidst the uncertainty. I could feel the weight of their stares, their eyes filled with questions and concern. I sighed, tightening my hold on Su Hyeok's hand, a silent plea for reassurance. He responded by holding my hand even tighter, a silent promise of his presence.
I kept my gaze fixed on the floor, not wanting to meet anyone's eyes. Yet, I could still hear On-jo's soft voice, trying to comfort Cheong-san. They were talking about eating fried chicken once this was all over. The thought brought a small smile to my face. The idea of returning to normalcy, of enjoying something as simple as a meal together, it sounded nice.
Suddenly, Cheong-san's voice cut through the silence, "I didn't hear anything at all. I just couldn't hear anything." His words hung in the air, a chilling reminder of our reality. I looked up at him, my heart aching at the fear evident in his eyes. Suho was laying his head against my shoulder, his silent support a comforting presence.
"Like what?" Su-hyeok asked, his voice steady despite the situation. Cheong-san hesitated before replying, "I mean, after Na-yeon went out... and when Ms. Park went after her... I didn't hear anything after that." His voice was laced with emotion, the fear and confusion clear in his tone.
Su-hyeok's question echoed in the room, "You mean screaming?" His voice was calm, but there was a hint of urgency in his tone.
"Yea," Cheong-san replied, his voice barely above a whisper. His confirmation seemed to hang in the air.
The room fell silent as everyone started to ponder over this new information. The silence was thick, filled with unspoken fears and hopes. It was Dae-su who broke the silence, his voice steady, "Maybe they didn't die then." His words were like a beacon of hope in the darkness. "They wouldn't have been quiet if zombies were biting them. They must be alive."
His words sparked a glimmer of hope in our hearts. Could it be possible? Could Ji min and Ms. Park still be alive? The thought was both terrifying and comforting. We were not alone in this nightmare.
"So, then they must be somewhere in the school," I found myself saying, my voice stronger than I expected. I looked towards Dae-su, seeking confirmation, seeking hope. He nodded, his eyes meeting mine.
On-jo was the first to voice her agreement, her words echoing in the tense silence, "I think you're right. I didn't hear anything either." Her admission seemed to resonate with the rest of us, adding a layer of credibility to Dae-su's theory.
Na yeon was next, her voice barely above a whisper, "Me neither. I was scared because I didn't know how I'd feel if I heard them screaming, but I didn't hear anything." Her confession was met with nods of understanding. We all shared that fear, the dread of hearing the screams that would confirm our worst fears.
Joon-yeong chimed in, his usually calm demeanor replaced by a hint of urgency, "Come to think of it, neither did I." His agreement seemed to solidify the theory, giving us a glimmer of hope amidst the uncertainty. Suho, ever the skeptic, added, "Glasses thinks that as well," earning a glare from Joon-yeong. But the tension in the room eased slightly at his words, replaced by a cautious optimism. "Then I'm right. They're alive, right?" Dae-su asked, his voice filled with hope.
But then Hyo-ryung question cut through the hopeful atmosphere like a knife, "Should she be alive?" Her words hung in the air, a stark reminder of the reality we were facing. Suho, who was sitting beside me, turned to her, confusion evident in his voice, "What do you mean?"
Hyo Rung didn't hesitate, her voice cold, "If it weren't for Shinae, we'd be calling her a murderer. She tried to kill Gyeong-su and walked out of here on her own. Is it even right for her to be alive? Aren't you all being fake?" Her words were like a bucket of cold water, dousing the hope that had started to kindle in our hearts.
The room was filled with a heavy silence, the air thick with tension and unspoken words. Wu-Jin's question about Ms. Park's fate hung in the air like a dark cloud, casting a shadow over everyone present. "Should she die I mean ms park?" He asked, his voice barely above a whisper. The question was met with silence, a tacit acknowledgment of the gravity of the situation.
"Is that our fault?" Wu-Jin continued, his voice growing louder, more assertive. His words echoed around the room, bouncing off the walls and settling heavily on everyone's shoulders. The question was rhetorical, but it demanded an answer nonetheless.
"Either way we're responsible for what happened," Na yeon said, her voice trembling despite the turmoil raging within her and slient tears down her face. The statement was met with a chorus of protests, but she held up her hand for silence. "Why is that? What did we do wrong?" Hyo Rung asked, her voice filled with genuine confusion.
"Ji min who had been more than fine with killing someone, then had the audacity to play the victim and choose to leave on her own. Simply because we didn't listen to her." "If no one's on your side, is it okay to kill?" Na yeon asked, her voice filled with bitterness and resentment feeling heart broken since her crush was like a zombie because of her.
"Ms. Park acted like we were wrong. We didn't tell Ji min to go out there. We didn't tell Ms. Park to go out there either. Why should we feel bad? What the hell did we do wrong?" She finished, her voice filled with frustration and anger.
Everyone sat in silence, contemplating her words. The room was filled with a heavy silence, the air thick with tension and unspoken words. "She's right, but... most of us in here loved Ms. Park. It's okay to feel upset that she left," I chimed in, trying to bring some semblance of peace to the room. Su Hyeok, who had been looking at me throughout the entire conversation, suddenly moved closer to me and wrapped his arms around me in a comforting hug.
