Pan American World Airways, short just „Pan Am" was originally names Pan American Airways. They had the legendary callsign CLIPPER and were founded in 1927 in the US. They ceased operation in 1991 and were fusioned with Delta. Pan Am was based in New York and their fleet had 226 planes when they ceased operation. Until 1991, PAWA was considered the unofficial flag carrier of the US and, alongside its main competitors Trans World Airlines or TWA, one of the two best-known international US airlines. The Boeing 747 was developed by Boeing in collaboration with Pan American World Airways.

Pan Am was launch customer of the Boeing 314, the Boeing 377, the Boeing 707, the Boeing 747 and the 747SP. Pan American was supposed to be one of the launch customers of the Airbus A320, but that never happened.
