"They are finally planning to get rid of you."

Maya navigated her way through the bustling streets of Jaipur, her mind replaying the job interview she had just attended. The sun hung low in the sky as she focused on the road ahead, contemplating the possibilities that lay ahead in her career.

As she neared a busy intersection, a sudden jolt rocked her car. Startled, she slammed on the brakes, a rush of frustration surging through her. With a furrowed brow, Maya stepped out of her car, her face a mix of annoyance and anger.

"Hey! Watch where you're going!" Maya knocked at the driver's window.

"I'm sorry, ma'am. It was a small mistake. I didn't see you." The window of the offending car rolled down, revealing a middle-aged man seated in the driver's seat. He looked at Maya with a calm demeanour.

"Small mistake? You just hit my car!" Maya was baffled.

"Easy, easy. What happened?" A voice came from the backseat of the car.

"Your driver here just hit my car, sir! I am sure you can see that." Maya said sarcastically, trying to see who was the owner of the voice.

"Let's settle this. My driver apologizes." The man in the backseat calmly said.

"Apology won't fix my car." Maya said, crossing her arms.

The driver's boss reached into his pocket and handed a 50-rupee note to his driver.

"Malhotra Sir, are you sure?" The driver, hesitatingly handed over the money to Maya when his boss nodded at him.

"What? Only 50 rupees? Who do you think you are?" Maya was now fuming with anger.

"It's enough. Let's go." The man smirked at Maya and asked his driver to start driving once again.

As the offender's car pulled away, Maya shook her head, irritated by the unexpected turn of events. She shook her head in frustration and walked back to her lovely car, which now had a huge ugly dent on it.

Sighing she decided to go back to her house for now, pushing the task of car repairing for another day.

As she entered the familiar threshold of her house, she anticipated the comforting embrace of her family, their undivided attention on her. However, to her surprise, the usual warmth and attention that greeted her were conspicuously absent. Maya's mother, Abha Sharma and father, Rajiv Sharma were engrossed in an animated conversation in the living room, seemingly oblivious to her presence. Her elder brother, Mohit Sharma, sat hunched over a laptop, his attention fixated on the screen.

"Hey, everyone! I'm home!" Maya tried gaining everyone's attention.

Her mother waved her off, engrossed in discussing something with her father.

"My job interview? Oh! It was fire!!!" Maya, bewildered, tried to catch everyone's attention once again, but this time, only her brother merely glanced at her before returning to his screen, dismissing her with a nonchalant wave.

Undeterred, she approached her family, attempting to engage them in a conversation. However, her attempts were met with distracted responses and absent-minded nods.
