Water thrashed around Percy in a funnel, the water ripping at his clothes, as if attempting to rip him to pieces, but it didn't hurt him... Somehow it didn't even touch him. A voice spoke out to him from his left, and Percy turned, eyes widening. There was a face emerging from the waves. It was bearded, with green eyes like Percy's, and a commanding stare. Percy felt like he knew the man... But he had no clue as to why.
'Perseus. Be careful, be cautious. Be smart.'
Thunder echoed in his head, and Percy was suddenly wide awake on an old, rotting mattress that pushed springs into his back. His eyes were wide, focused on the ceiling. He usually had weird dreams concerning water, but no one ever spoke to him in them. The sound that broke him out of the dream came again, and Percy sat bolt upright, getting to his feet. "Hurry up, Percy! You're going to be late."
He sighed. The orphanage he'd grown up in was never peachy, and he doubted he'd ever be welcome within it's walls. His only escape from the boring beige walls was school, and the playground in a field. Percy changed quickly and grabbed the first thing he could use as an excuse to get out of Church. A maths book. No one would believe it, everyone knew him too well. Any book, and they'd call his bluff.
Percy continued to scramble through his small pile of belongings until a thud echoed from the window. Percy froze, turning his head to the window. There was nothing there. Thinking another one of the kids had thrown something at his window again, he returned to his rummaging, before the thud came again. Percy cursed under his breath and went to the window, opening it. "Oi! Stop throwing-" He cut off. A barn owl fluttered to a stop on the sill, shaking out it's ruffled feathers, a letter in it's beak.
Below, on the orphanage lawn, kids were staring in awe at the tame owl. Percy frowned, before reaching out to the bird and tugging on the letter. The owl's orange eyes glowered at Percy, and when it finally released the letter, it nipped at his finger, drawing blood. Percy winced, putting his finger in his mouth before closing the window.
He sat down on his bed and opened the letter slowly. It was written on thick, soft parchment paper. His eyes scanned the first page about 5 times before the words came through clearly, and fully registered.

Percy frowned in disbelief before continuing to the second page.
