~49~

Coughing and gasping for air, Victoria inhaled and exhaled deeply trying to get the air flowing through her lungs again before she could speak.

"If I have to ask you one more fucking time Victoria so help me." Joe seethed.

"I didn't tell them anything. Paige figured it out Joe. She figured it out and told Sav." Joe yanked her hair up pulling her up further to meet his eyes.

"YOU'RE LYING!!!!" Victoria's head bounced backwards when the back of his hand connected with her face making her head hit against the wall.

*Soft groan*

"Please Joe. I'm not lying. Paige asked me if you'd been hurting me and I told her the truth." The second she said it, she knew it was a serious mistake.

Joe raised his hand and popped her in the mouth with a loud *SMACK* her lip instantly bleeding when her teeth bit into her lower lip.

"You fucking bitch. I can't believe you told Paige and Sav that." Joe pulled her forward by her hair and threw her against the sofa. Grabbing her by her blouse, he slapped her face with the back of his hand, connecting with her eye.

Victoria screamed but this only angered Joe more and he clenched his fist bringing it down on her jaw with a sickening thud.

Victoria's eyes closed and she slid the rest of the way to the white plush carpet her body falling into a heap and going limp.

*Hour Later*

~50~

Victoria groaned softly and slowly opened her eyes without moving for fear that Joe would start hurting her again. Scanning the room she saw that he was gone and she slowly began getting up, grimacing when she saw the blood stain on the carpet.

She yelped when she flexed her jaw feeling the pain of where he had hit her. Going to the mirror in the hall, tears escaped her eyes when she saw the reflection that looked back at her. Her jaw was swollen along with her eye that had quickly turned black and blue and her lower lip was caked with dried blood from where her teeth bit it when Joe's hand hit her. Victoria jumped when she heard the front door slam and instinctively shrunk back when Joe stood in the doorway holding a bouquet of red long stemmed roses.

Joe's eyes pooled with tears at seeing Victoria back away from him. He couldn't blame her really. He'd hurt her in the worst possible way but another part of him said that it was her fault for making him so angry. He stepped forward gently sliding his hand into her hair and pulled her toward him placing a soft kiss on the top of her head so as to not hurt her tender jaw.

"I'm so sorry I lost my temper Victoria but you shouldn't have made me so angry. I was wrong to hit you but you were wrong to tell Paige and Sav that I hurt you. I would never hurt you if you didn't make me so mad. You know that don't you?" Joe asked softly cupping her chin gently in his palm and tilted her head up to look at him.

Her lower lip trembled and the tears slid painfully down her cheeks as she nodded her head. "I didn't want to tell them Joe. I didn't mean to tell them Joe. I'm sorry I told them." Victoria sobbed.

Joe gathered her into his arms stroking her hair soothingly. "Sssh baby. Things are okay now. I know you didn't mean to do it. I forgive you." Joe told her kissing her hair.

He stepped back holding out the roses to her. "I got these for my beautiful wife. You should go put them in some water before they begin to wilt." Joe placed them in Victoria's hands and kissed the side of her mouth.

"Thank you Joe." Victoria smiled stiffly, regretting it as fresh pain glazed her mind and left to find a vase.
