Author's POV:
Her nostrils flared slightly as she drew in a sharp breath, inhaling the charged atmosphere. The tension radiating from her body was palpable, a testament to the surge of adrenaline coursing through her veins.
The crimson-eyed creatures reluctantly retreated, their growls echoing through the ominous stillness. Their paws, gripped by an unseen force, trembled as if bound by an otherworldly cuff. Xavier observed intently, his gaze veiled, as an ethereal white radiance enveloped Ava, her eyes transforming into an enigmatic shade of dark blue. The heavens darkened with heavy clouds, casting an eerie gloom upon the landscape, as fat droplets of rain began to cascade from the somber sky, plunging the surroundings into a mysterious dusk.
The red creatures turned around and ran in the opposite direction. With a loud gasp, Ava fell to the floor unconscious. The white light disappeared.
"Ava," Xavier ran towards her and crouched down on the muddy path. His wound has healed by now due to his Alpha powers.
"Love," Xavier pulled her to his lap and gently tapped her cheek. He still can't wrap his mind around everything. What was that?
Ava's skin, icy to the touch, sent a shiver down Xavier's spine. Gently cradling her hands in his, he tenderly blew warm breath, his concern palpable in the gentle caress. Desperation crept into his touch as he rubbed her palms, but the chill seemed relentless, leaving an echo of worry in the air.
"Ava, please open your eyes," Xavier pleaded. Zion was whimpering seeing his mate in this state.
Rising swiftly, Xavier lifted her in a tender, bridal embrace, carrying her beneath the shelter of a majestic tree. Gently placing her on the ground, he cradled her delicate face in his hands, his touch infused with a depth of emotion. As he caressed her cheek, the profound chill persisted, amplifying the intensity of his passion and concern.
Xavier quickly changed into his wolf and ran away. He ran here and there in the dark forest but found nothing.
He went near a large tree and gazed it up and down. He went back and ran into the tree shaking it. The water fell like a bucket on the floor. He went back again and ran into it. The tree fell to the ground with a loud tug.
Pulling the leaves, he went to his mate and place it on her. His wolf went again and grasped as many leaves as he could in his canines. He put all the leaves on her like a blanket, shielding her from the rain.
Changing into his wolf form, Xavier watched as his lips were still white as ghosts and she was still freezing. He slowly went towards her and sat beside her. Taking her fragile hands in his, he closed his eyes.
I've loved you since I got to know the meaning of love.
Why can't you love me, Xavier?
Her words were echoing in his mind. He slowly took her hand towards his lips and kissed her knuckles gently. With one last look at her face, he stood up and took off his shirt that was clinging to his body due to rain.
He slid next to her and pulled her to his chest. Pleasurable sparks ran down his body making him growl. He tightened his hold on her, providing her his ardency and... He doesn't know what to call it.
Meanwhile, Ava pushed into the flashback, the air was filled with the laughter of fireflies, and the moonlight played on the surface of a tranquil pond. A young Ava, with innocence illuminating her eyes, stood at the edge of the clearing. The world was a canvas of wonder, and the forest seemed to pulse with secrets.
It was then that the Daryad fairy, a delicate ethereal being with wings adorned in glistening dewdrops, appeared before Ava. The fairy's presence was both enchanting and comforting, a guardian spirit in the moonlit haven. Daryad's voice, like the gentle rustle of leaves in a breeze, spoke of destiny woven into the fabric of nature.
