Chapter 1-

I kissed my sleeping boy’s head goodbye right before I slipped out of the house to head to work. My job is self defense in local schools and colleges.  Considering that I wasn’t a guardian right now, I decided to put my knowledge to good use and teach humans how to protect themselves. Momma had been very supportive of my decision to leave court so I could be with my son and watch him grow up without worrying about getting myself killed. Yeva didn’t put up a fight either after hearing what happened with Rose.

Rose. What to say about Rose? She rejected my proposal of marriage. Broke my heart. Broke my son’s heart. And then to top it all off, she took away my daughter, who was beyond ticked off at Rose for making her leave. Marie screamed for me, but Rose told her to shut up and put her in the car. Rose didn’t get a warm goodbye from my family. They couldn’t believe how she treated me.

I was still so broken about how things ended. My Roza would never be mine and with each passing day, I realized that more and more and each day it became a little easier to get on with my life. Parking outside of the local high school, I climbed out of my Honda Civic and headed towards the offices where my schedule would be waiting.

I gathered my things and went to the gym to start setting up mats and punching dummies. Once it was set up, I ran to the locker rooms and changed into workout clothes. Walking back into the gym, I watched as the kids started coming through the doors.  These kids, they all had something in common, money, all except one. She came in last and took a seat far away from the rest of the students. While all of the others were in shorts and tank tops or, for girls, shorts and bras, this girl was in a long sleeve shirt and sweat pants with her hair tied in a not on her head and a shiny black eye.

The other students pointed and talked about her, but I was intrigued. She seems to be tough. Having no control on myself, I walked over to her. “Hey,” was my brilliant conversation started.

“Hello, you must be Mr. Belikov. I’m Killi. Sounds like kill with and extra ‘I’ sound.” She smiled.

“Nice to meet you! I notice the other students don’t sit with you.”

“They never have. Ever since they heard I’m from an abusive home they don’t come near me.” She shrugged. “Mr. Belikov, I already know how to fight. I was wondering if you could help me with my emotions so I don’t feel like I have to fight all the time.” Killi requested.

I couldn’t help the smile on my face. “I’d be honored to teach you that.” Walking to the front of the students I turned to look at them. “Well, I’ll say morning instead of good morning because some of you probably had a crapy morning. My name is Dimitri Belikov. Why don’t you introduce yourselves to me and then I will tell you what kind of stuff we will learn in this class. Also, if there is something you want to learn just ask and I will be happy to help you.”

While the students introduced themselves, I did a quick profile on them and really only found two people who might actually succeed in this class. Killi and the bad boy. His name was Tyler and I often saw Killi watching him. Her had longer black hair and had a few piercings. He had a group of socially popular people around him so I wasn’t entirely sure if he himself was popular or not.

After telling them what I’d teach them this year, I broke them into pairs. “Suzy and Nettie,” I called and paired the cheerleaders together. There were a few students left to break into groups now so I went along with my thoughts. “Killi and Tyler,” his guys laughed at him while he simply blushed and walked over to where she was sitting.

“Hey Killi,” he reached for her hands and brought her up to stand with him. She looked starstruck and he rubbed at her arm. “Don’t worry about them. It’s a new year and I’m my own guy. And guess what? You’re the girl I’ve always wanted to talk to.”

“Why me?” She asked him. I decided to let them chat a few minutes while I broke the other students apart, keeping them in their social groups so they didn’t whine at me.

“Today I want you to make your partner angry. I mean really piss them off. The groups to show any attacking is out and we will continue until there is only one group left.” I watched them glare at each other. “Begin.”

There were words flying back and forth and there was already two groups pulling hair, the cheerleaders. I smirked at their stupidity. Walking around the groups I caught phrases that would make my mother blush.

Killi and Tyler were standing close together, both looking extremely calm. He took a step to her and wrapped his arms around her. Kili blushed and said something through her teeth at him. It was fun watching them. More people started turning violent and finally it was down to two teams. The emo guys and my set up pair. Stupid things were being said to egg the other one on and finally I heard one that broke my heart. “No one will ever love you!” Shockingly that came from Tyler and I don’t think he meant it. Glancing at the class I noticed they were the only pair left. They however, did not. Killi punched Tyler in the gut and screamed at him about how wrong he was.

“Hey, you two won.” I interrupted. Tyler stood up and brought Killi in his arms.

“Get off.” She begged and squirmed.

“Killi, you know that someone will always love you.”

“NO they won’t.” She began to sob into his chest.

“I will.” He whispered back.

Deciding that class should be over, I dismissed them all and watched as Tyler kept Killi in his arms. That was her breaking point, being told no one would love her. Taking a moment, I let myself cry before setting up for my next class.
