Hey so this is short, but I was babysitting today and then I waas cooking all afternoon.
Chapter 2- Opening up to momma?
After work, I went to the bakery for momma before going home. She always loved pastries from the bakery, but never usually got out long enough to stop for some so it was a treat since I would be passing it every day.
When I got home, Dimka was nowhere to be found. “Momma, where’s my boy?” I asked panicked.
“DADDY! DADDY! DADDY!” Dimka ran at my legs and latched a hold. “Auntie V was playing with me.” I hugged him close to me. “I missed you.”
“Missed you too, baby.” I went to find momma in the kitchen as always and handed her the box from the bakery. “I got something for you, momma. I know they are your favorite.” She beamed and snuck a look inside while a smile spread on her face.
“Thank you, Dimka.” She hugged me. “Now sit down. We are going to talk.” I sat down and started sipping the coffee she pushed towards me. “Tell me why you didn’t go back to court and your job?”
Ah, straight to the point. “Well other than rejection, Rose and I had a conversation that no one knows about.” I started. “While everyone was sleeping, she came to see me in my room.”
Flashback-----
“Dimitri, will you just listen to me for a minute?” Rose sat down on my bed and looked at me so I nodded my head for her to continue speaking. “About what you asked me the other day, well, I do love you, but not enough to want to marry you. I could see us hooking up here and there, but nothing more.” As if that wasn’t hurtful enough she still had more to say. “Come on, Dimitri. You’re not someone that can be counted on. You constantly over think things. You are weak and closed minded. You’re just not the kind of guy I see myself with for the rest of my life.” My heart hurt at her words. “You’re not good in bed. You have horrible communication skills. You care more about your boy than you do about me. I refuse to be the girl in the background you screw with when you want company.”
“I’m going to ask you to leave my room please.” I spoke quietly.
“Oh, stop being a baby. Man up. I almost think you could be gay with how emotional you get. It’s worse than a girl on her period. And forget about seeing Marie because I don’t want her around such a worthless, piece of crap man.” She left the room and I shut down.
End of Flashback----
Momma was looking at me as I sat staring at my cup of coffee, trying not to cry, but like earlier in gym class, I broke down again. I was worthless. I could never be loved. My daughter wouldn’t even know about me. “Am I worthless, momma? Do I deserve to be loved?”
Mom looked at me with a scowl on her face. “You are not worthless. You’ve become so much more than I ever thought you would. You deserve love and I know you’ll find someone worth it.”
“I’m trying so hard to be everything opposite of what she said I was, but I’m exhausted. I can’t even stop myself from crying anymore.” She hugged me tightly. We talked more until dinner was ready and then we decided that the family didn’t need to know what happened.
