not really getting much from this so my update is short

Chapter 8: Dimitri’s point of view:

I woke up early and went to check on Marie. She seemed to be snuggled with someone, but I didn’t see anyone. I noticed her hair move and the blankets shift. “Hey there Mason,” I decided that even though I couldn’t see him I’d be nice.

“He says morning to you too, daddy.” Marie whispered.

“Morning baby girl, did you sleep alright?”

“Come.” She waved at me and I sat on her bed. Marie crawled into my lap and snuggled into me. “I love you.”

“Love you. You’re my sweet baby girl.” She kissed my cheek.

“I was scared you wouldn’t like me when you found out I still talk to Mason.”

I held her closer. “I will always love you and as long as you’re safe and happy than you can talk to Mason.” I snuggled with my daughter for a little while since I was up early and had plenty of time.  “Alright, daddy’s got to get ready for work.”

“Daddy, can I meet Miss Krystal today?”

“How do you know about her?” I hadn’t mentioned her and Dimka was already asleep when I got home.

“I can’t tell you.” Marie whispered and I stepped towards her to take her in my arms. “NO DADDY! DON’T HIT ME!” She yelled and ran into her closet, closing the door. Hit her? Why would she think I’d hit her. Did Rose abuse her?

“I’m not going to hit you, baby. I love you.”

“Promise?” Her voice came through the door.

“I promise.” The closet door opened and she peeked out. “Come here, daddy wants to see something.” Marie slowly came towards me. When she was close enough I hugged her. I explained to her what I was doing before I moved. She was calm so I continued. I moved the back of her shirt up and saw sick purple and yellow splotches across her back. I couldn’t take the pain it caused me to see my little girl that bruised. “Oh, baby,” I held her close, but lightly. “Who did this to you?”

“Rose and Adrian,” she whispered. “They would hit me if I made them mad and if I made a noise or cried they would do it again. Mason made me feel better so I started talking to him again.”

“I promise you, Marie, that no one here will hit you.”

“Don’t promise me that.” She cried.

“No, I will promise that. Baby, when I was growing up my daddy hit my mom and my sisters and me and when I was a big boy I hit him back. I’ve never let anyone else hit someone in my family since then. You’re my princess and I promise no one will hit you.”
