"Why did she do it?" I ask Price, sitting in his office head in my hands. "I just don't understand why she wouldn't believe me." I can hear the way my voice cracks and Price looks at me in a sympathetic understanding.

"Ghost, lad. One of the first things I learned from delving into Siren history is that they never believe someone could truly love them. The goods ones like Ceri anyway. Their powers don't work on those who truly love them, but it's a double edged sword. You can't make them believe you're not under the sway of their powers without just cementing it in their minds that you're siren addled."

"So the more I tried to tell her, the worse I made the situation?" My voice comes out unusually strangled, the thought that I had driven her to suicide rather than continue holding me to her would be a stake in my heart until the day I died.

"Yes," Price answers softly and pulls out a decanter of whiskey and a pair of cups. He pours the amber liquid out and I take mine downing the lot in a mouthful.

"Fuck..."

"You couldn't have known. It's not your fault."

"But Price, I pushed her to give me my memories back and she had to... had too," I hiccup as I try to prevent the sobbing my words desperately wish to give way to. I clear my throat and try again. "She caused harm to herself to get my memories back for me. And then she slit her throat to save me yet again..."

Price smiles in a sad admiration. "She's a firecracker that one. When I found her she had a harpoon in one hand and a pirate in by his throat in the other covered in blood. Her eyes were the red of bloodlust as she fought shifting in the middle of the fight and trying to find her baby sister. She would have burned the world for anyone she loved, you're lucky enough to be on that list, Ghost. If she knew any other way to protect you she would have."

My shoulders shake as the emotions finally overwhelm me. The memory of finding her on the beach, her clawed hand coming up to take her own life hitting me hard. Price comes around and lays a comforting hand on my shoulder.

"Come on lad, we have a funeral to prepare for."

"Yes sir," I say turning the emotions off as only I knew how to do and stood, putting aside the emotions to deal with later. "Do you mind if I take a detour before I join you however?" I ask stiffly.

He gives me a small knowing smile and tips his head towards me.

I make my way through the base and push open a set of doors and head towards a familiar door. Opening it up, I turn the emotions back on.

"Hey sweetheart," I murmur, Ceri's eyes pinning me to the spot.
