It has been a couple of days since our return, and thus far, everything is proceeding according to plan. Denver, in her refusal to entertain any confessions or engage in dating, has only increased her allure. As for me, I have resumed my role as her best friend, content to remain out of the spotlight. Thank goodness for that. I detest being the center of attention. As I continued to peruse the literature on teleportation, a sudden gust of wind forcefully blew the book from my grasp. It came to a rest upon a particular page, which immediately caught my attention. I peered down and beheld a chilling image of a woman being stabbed, with flames raging in the background, igniting a sense of foreboding within me. Questions swirled in my mind. What could this possibly mean, and how is it connected to my current quest for knowledge about teleportation? Intrigued by the mysterious image, I carefully folded the page, tucking it away for further contemplation as my curiosity deepened. Stepping back into the world around me, my thoughts were momentarily interrupted by the chatter of passersby, catching snippets of conversation about Denver that hinted at hidden truths awaiting discovery.
" I can't believe she is actually saying no to these boys, she is totally trying to get more attention out of it."
" Wasn't not too long ago she wanted all the boys."
" Yeah, this act won't make her a different person "
" honestly "As I made my way to class, a scene unfolded that caught me off guard. Observing the group of girls who were whispering and giggling, I couldn't help but feel a sense of discomfort. Despite her insistence on not seeking a relationship at the moment, rumors and gossip seemed to follow Denver wherever she went. It was obvious that jealousy played a role in their unkind words, especially since Denver possessed both beauty and intelligence. Yet, there was a lack of awareness in her interactions with others that needed to be addressed. As I entered the classroom, the dynamics shifted as the same girls who had been criticizing Denver were now chatting with her as if they were old friends. My approach seemed to signal a change in the atmosphere, causing them to suddenly feel a chill down their spines. Their hasty departure, citing a sudden need to leave, exposed their insincerity. Denver's confusion was evident as I took my seat, pondering the complexities of social interactions.
Denver " What happened?"
Me " Dont talk to those girl, they are bad news. "
Denver " How you know?"
Me " I just know, just listen to me "
Denver " Okay"I sat next to denver, and looked around. Nothing yet, nothing so far.
Denver " how is your little side quest going?"
Me " Better than expected, but i am getting a weird feeling "
Denver " which is?"
Me " Not sure, I will tell you when it happens "
Denver " I guess.."As the school day ended, Denver and I followed our routine and headed to a quaint cafe to relax over some food and beverages. During our conversation, memories of the past were revisited, prompting me to observe Denver closely. I noticed a significant change in her demeanor compared to before – a stark absence of the once prevalent hatred and depression that had overshadowed her joy, leaving her looking pale and lacking zest for life. Reflecting on the transformation, I felt relieved and grateful that Denver had successfully overcome that challenging phase.
Denver turned towards me with a smile, her face still bearing remnants of the food she had enjoyed moments ago. As my gaze lingered on Denver, a peculiar image washed over me - the sensation of drowning within my own mind, fighting to resurface while a dark figure loomed in the depths. The spell was broken when Denver snapped her fingers, her expression now etched with concern as she met my gaze.Denver " Are you okay? looks like you saw something?"
Me " Umm yeah, yeah I am fine, just really tired. We had to redo the exams, like back then"
Denver " You always scored above 85. Should have e been easy. "
Me " Should have been remember we have been in the other world for soo long I had to re-memorize everything "
Denver " True, Anyways that's continue eating and then walk home"
Me " Okay"We spent a considerable amount of time at that place, estimating it to be around two hours. As we started our journey back home, the splendid sight of the sky caught our attention, accompanied by a gentle breeze blowing in our direction. The overall ambiance was so pleasant that it stirred a sense of tranquility within us. Eventually, we paused near the bridge, gazing out at the captivating view of the city ahead. Both of us shared a moment of pure joy and contentment, exchanging smiles while basking in the beauty of Denver's skyline.
Denver " Should we go"
Me " yes"Just as our moment was about to end and we prepared to depart, a sudden, sharp pain pierced my back like a dagger, causing blood to flow profusely from my wound. I collapsed, my body growing weaker while Denver stood frozen, horrified by the unfolding events. The assailant, concealed behind a menacing mask, callously removed the dagger from my body and relentlessly pursued Denver. I could only watch, helpless, as Denver was violently brought down to the ground, the relentless stabbings sending shockwaves of agony through the air. With my vision growing dimmer, the echoes of Denver's agonized cries resonated in my ears, piercing the eerie silence that followed. Another devastating incident unfolding before me...
