"Oh come on. Kitchen is off limits." Someone whined. Kane pulled away from me to look back at whoever was interrupting him. I felt my cheeks heat up as Steve gave me a look. Kane grabbed my hand.
"Come on. I have something for you." He whispered. Steve gave us a look. "It's not dirty. I just bought it this morning." Kane snapped. Steve gave him a weird look. "It is nothing sexual. Stop looking at me like that." I couldn't help but giggle. Kane playfully narrowed his eyes at me. His arm tightened around my waist. "I'll be right back then." He whispered. He pressed a kiss to my cheek then left the room.
"It's good to see him like that again." Steve whispered.
"How long have you known him?" I asked. Steve looked thoughtful.
"Since we were in like fifth grade. So," He held up his fingers like he was counting. He huffed and dropped his hands to his sides. "I don't know. I can't even remember how old we were in fifth grade. But it's been a while." I laughed at him. "You know, I was there that first day he saw you." He told him.
"At the park?" I asked. He nodded.
"I don't believe in love at first sight, but I'd bet anything that that's what it was when he saw you. Especially when you knocked that guy out. I've never seen that look in his eyes. Not even with Haley." I looked down. "Please tell me he told you about her." I nodded.
"Yeah, Kasey mentioned her when she came by. He told me after she left." I whispered.
"I haven't seen him smile like that since before her. He wasn't playful like that either. I think he did love her but in a different way." Steve admitted. I just nodded as Kane walked back into the kitchen.
"So, you got us matching hats the other night. I got us matching shirts." Kane smiled as he handed the bag over to me. I pulled out a shirt that had Queen on the back with a zero and a two below it. Kane held up a shirt with King on the back with a zero and a one below it.
"I have an idea." Steve told us with a twinkle in his eyes.
"What?" Kane asked.
"You should put them on and I'll take a picture of you two, but like with you facing away so it only shows your back." Kane smiled. "People are already going crazy over the picture of the matching hats. They want to know if your taken or still single." Steve said. My eyes widened.
"Wait, what picture?" I asked.
"I took one the other night in the car. You both had your hats on backward and you were holding hands." Kane handed Steve his phone.
"Take a picture with my phone." Kane ordered. Kane gave me a look. I sighed as I changed shirts causing Kane's eyes to narrow. I just smiled innocently and shrugged.
"Officially taken." Kane said as he typed the words into his phone. He smiled at me. "Are you sure before I post this?" He asked again. I nodded. He'd asked several times already. I was sure. Besides, people still wouldn't know it was me in the picture. All you could see were our backs. I sighed as my phone went off. I showed Kane that Liz was calling. "Are you going to tell her?" He asked. I shrugged.
"I'm not sure. I'm honestly not sure that I can trust her to keep quiet about it." I replied. He gave me a look as he reached over and pushed the button to answer the call. I sent him a look as he left the room with a wink.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Did you see what Kane put on his Snapchat?" She asked. I sighed.
"Is that the only reason you called me?" I heard her huff.
"No, I also wanted to know what was going on with Tommy earlier. And, I'd really like to know what's going on with my best friend. She hasn't been around lately and she'd been really secretive." She replied. I sighed again.
