Hades came back to check on Persephone later in the day. By the time he got to the couch she was sound asleep. She probably got bored of sitting here all day with nothing to do. He smiled and kissed her forehead. He promised himself that the kiss was only platonic and that it was a sign that he wished her safety and wellness. He debated whether to wake her or not and left the room, leaving Persephone to live in her dreams.
Earlier that day while he was doing paperwork, he found himself wanting to take her out to dinner, not a date of course! Just a nice, simple dinner. He walked slowly back to his office and sat down, deep in thought. Not about work, but about her. He thought about everything there was to think about a woman; her beauty, personality, style, her laugh, the way she talked, the softness of her skin, and plenty of other things. However, he still denied his love for her. He never wanted to think of her like that. They were friends and likely would stay that way. But it was difficult. He couldn't help but wonder what life would be like if they got married, but it wouldn't be possible.
Hades tried his hardest to think about his work, but his mind just kept drifting back to her. He then came to the conclusion that the only way for him to get any work done in his castle was to solve the problem. He knew she needed more clothes anyway, so he figured he would buy some for her. Some less revealing clothing. At that moment, she was wearing this beautiful, dark pink dress that showed half of her inner breast. He thought that might have been his issue, but he didn't want to just buy her clothes and force her to wear them. A shopping spree on Earth might be nice, he thought. After a little bit more thought, he found out that her clothes were not the issue. It was him. He liked her more than he cared to admit. He decided to open up to her and tell her how he felt. He was willing to take the risk of getting hurt, he was ready to give love another chance. He was willing to take a chance on love. But he wanted to wait until dinner when she was more awake and in a good mood from the food.
Later, he woke her up and asked for help making dinner. He wasn't wanting to make anything too big or fancy, but he wanted an excuse to wake her up so early. They cooked the meal, set the table, and put food on plates together, enjoying each other's company. They sat down and ate, having some small conversations here and there.
"So how do you like it here?"
"It's not as bad as I thought," she said, smiling. "It's really quite nice, peaceful too."I'm glad."
He was frustrated that he didn't say anything about his little crush on her. He was a nervous wreck. His palms were all sweaty and instead of chewing on his food, he was chewing on the inside of his bottom lip. Fortunately, he at least knew he had to say something. The unfortunate bit is that he didn't know what to say or how to go about saying it. Then she broke the silence.
"You know I really could spend the rest of eternity here."That broke him. He scooted his chair closer to her, sitting sideways in it. He sat for a moment trying to find his words.
"Listen Persephone, I really enjoy having you here..."
"I have to leave?" she interrupted.
"No, no. Just listen. I would love it if you stayed forever, and I think we can take this a step further." He said, "I really like you, Persephone. I have since day one."
Hades braced himself, expecting the worst. To his surprise, she liked him back. She told him how she wished he had told her sooner because she would've said yes. She hugged him, and they stayed that way for a long time. It was a sweet moment. It was also the first time either of them had felt love before. They both felt a deep connection and were overcome with emotion. They both knew that this was meant to be and that they would have a beautiful future together.
Probably.
The thing is, they weren't sure. They wanted this to go well, but if one of them had to break it off it wouldn't be a surprise. Their lives are so different. She belongs on Olympus, not in the underworld. But if they weren't meant to be, then they should make the best of it while it lasts. He scooped her up and brought her into the living room. They sat down and spoke for two hours before finally heading off to bed.
The two walked upstairs, gave one final hug and split off into their own rooms. Of course, that night she did end up having a nightmare and running to spend the night in his room with him, but they were comfortable, and it wasn't awkward. He pulled her close into a warm embrace, pulling the blanket over them and they fell asleep together.
In the morning, they awoke to the pink sun streaming through the windows, both feeling refreshed and happy. Well. Kind of happy. Hades was not a morning person whatsoever. She, however, definitely was. She woke up smiling and wide awake while he struggled to wake up. Persephone crawled off the bed, grabbed his arms and pulled him out. They had stuff to do that day! There was no time for him to be sleepy! They had plans together. She dragged him into the bathroom and made him brush his teeth while she brushed hers. His routine was shorter than hers, but he waited for her, because he was curious to see what she did every morning. At first, it was boring to him. But then she got to her makeup. the makeup bit scared him because he didn't like how close to her eyes she was getting with the brushes and eyeliner pencils, so he had to step out.
