Eleonora Gates POV

"Ms. Gates" a voice called from outside my painting studio.

I frowned before placing the paintbrush down, no one would dare to disturb me once I was in this room.

I swung the door open and was met with my father's bodyguard.

"Mr.Gates request that you come to his office right away." He said with a poker face.

"Ok," I replied, closing the door behind me I then followed Mr. Miller to Dad's office.

On my way there I couldn't help but think about what Dad possibly needed because he only requested me at his office went it was really serious.

I stood behind Mr. Miller as he knocked on Dad's office door.

"Come in," a cold voice boomed from inside.

I swallowed my spit when Mr. Miller opened the door and stood to the side indicating me to enter.

After entering my dad signaled Mr. Miller that he could leave.

Dad isn't a soft guy but for his family he was.
I have the perfect family anyone could have ever asked for my father was loving, caring, and very protective of us while he was a cold, scary guy to the outside world.

My parents and I have movie nights every Friday. I would pick the movie that I wanted to watch this week followed by mom and dad then we would rotate .We would have popcorn, ice cream, pizza, etc all our favorite foods.

We didn't have a movie night for almost a month now. We all have become a workaholic for the past month plus Mom was away on a business trip.

We are all business owners so we had to accept that we won't be free every time.

"Sit Eleonora," He said before looking back at his laptop.

He only calls me Eleonora when he is serious.

I pulled out one of the two chairs that were in front of his desk and sat.

"Relax." He added making me sit upright in the chair relaxing a bit.

"I have called you here to speak with you about something serious, you will be 23 in a couple of days so I think it's the right time to tell you ." He said leaning forward while placing his elbow on his desk.

"Ok," I said clearing my throat.

"Your mom wanted to be here so the both of us could tell you but her business trip had extended a bit longer than expected," He said and I nodded.

"Your grandfather had signed a contract before he died." He started and I stiffened.

This can't be good.
What would that have to do with me if it's not something about me?

"Back then our family fell into some trouble the only way out was for the Rucci's help,"

"As you know we are the second largest in the business world and the Rucci's are number one ever since,"

"They agree under one circumstance to help us. Dad took it and they sealed in agreement for you Eleonora Gates to marry Lorenzo Rucci,"

"What!" I shout.

I stiffened as my brain registered that name. The popular player Lorenzo my crush since childhood.
I cringed when I remembered the love letter I sent him when we were in fresh in high school.

I sent him a letter expressing my feelings. I peeked at him and watched as he read the letter he wore his poker face as usual so I had my hopes up it all came crashing down when I saw him crushing the paper.
I ran away not waiting to witness him throwing away the paper (my heart).

Luckily his family had to leave for their home country (Italy) in less than a month so I didn't have to face him every day. His family would come over every weekend since Grandpa and senior Rucci were like brothers.

They visited three times before they left and not once has Lorenzo come along. He would always be busy with homework, projects, or something well that was his excuse to not come along.

The Gates's accompanied them to the airport however I faked sick on that day so I could stay home.

"Calm down," Dad said pulling me out of my thoughts

"Dad I can't marry him," I said lowly as tears started to fill my eyes.

"It's not a choice Eleonora, the date is already set from 8 years back," He said and I looked at him in disbelief.

"They set the date when I was 14," I asked

"Senior Rucci has always wanted us to become one since Dad and him were both best friends from childhood. They wanted to work together and keep the bond and connection strong no matter what,"

"Are you serious?" I asked filled with the feeling of betrayal.

So I am just the tie to them?

"Dad had already set the date it's in the contract," He said pointing to a folder that I didn't realize was in front of me until now.

"It will be held on the day your 23rd birthday falls on. You are in good hands Nora and I will protect you until the day I die," He said then stood up.

"Come here," He said walking towards me.

I was left with no choice but to walk towards him, he doesn't show his weakness to anyone.

As soon as I was in front of him he pulled me into a hug at that moment I let it all out. I cried my eyes out as he gently rubbed my back.

"Let it all out Nora," He said and I felt a tear drop on my back since I was wearing a backless top.

He can't be crying I have never seen Dad cry.

I straightened up a bit and saw that tears were streaming down his face. He was the coldest man I knew but still, he had a soft spot for his loved one.

"Don't cry Dad, I am going to do it," I said hugging him tight.

"I'm so sorry Nora for ruining your future," He said pulling away.

"It's okay Dad, it's not your fault," I replied.

A knock sounded on the door and Dad walked over to his desk.

"Give me a minute," He said returning to his cold self.

"Read it and then return it in the next hour, you may leave," He said after handing me the contract.

"Ok Dad," I said before wiping away all traces of tears. I turned to looked at dad before leaving and all traces of his tears were gone as well and he looked colder than before.
