My eyes were beginning to hurt from crying so much. I was still wrapped up in my mothers arms. She was holding me tight, sobbing like me. I had completely forgotten about Carina outside, still looking unconscious. The Mayor would be here soon but I was to grief-struck to care. The only thing that worried me was Carina getting caught.
"I am so sorry, sweetheart. There was nothing we could do to keep him, here with us."
"I told him!" I yelled, "I told him not to go! He didn't listen! He didn't!" I was balling my eyes out, it seemed. But it was true. I did tell my dad not to go out of the main computer to fight off deadly viruses, I really did. He said that he had to, it was his 'destiny'.
"We couldn't do anything, honey. He had no choice, the Mayor needed soldiers to fight off the viruses. He risked his life to keep us safe, but I'm sure he'll find a way back, he wouldn't go missing and leave us in the dust ." My mom placed her hands on my shoulders, "he is a strong man and will try as hard as he can to get back to us."
My mom told me to get ready to be stamped and shooed me away to my room. My mom had no idea that Carina was outside, and she surely wouldn't be pleased after all that had happened.
"Celeste!" My mom yelled from downstairs, I prayed that she hadn't seen Carina, "Honey, I have to leave so when you get stamp, tell them that I have a meeting in Eir. Kay?" I could still hear the crack in her voice from crying so much, just like Carina.
"Oh mom! Wait! Wait!"
"Yes sweety?" My mom yelled back at me, I could hear how she was a little aggravated, and needed to go. But I couldn't think of a way for her to go out the back door, and pass Carina by.
"Um, could you, uh, go out the back door, to uh, see how the plants are dying again? It seems pretty bad." I couldn't think of any better excuse to use to get her to skip over Carina.
"Ummm, sure I guess but... well ok." I was safe, for now. Just as I heard my mom leave to her, new 'government only' cycle car, I leaped down the stairs and outside. Carina had just woken up.
"Carina? Carina? We need to get inside, quick."
"What? Oh, ok." Carina said hoarsely. Her eyes seemed as though they were just barely open. We slipped in the house and the fist thing I did was show Carina to my room.
"Ok, Carina, here's how it's gonna' work. You need to stay up here, silently, until I come back up and tell you to come out."
"Ok, where's your mom? I'd really like to meet her. Or, did I already meet her?" Carina seemed as if she really had no idea what was going on.
"Um, that's the problem. You see, my mom doesn't know about you, and she might not be able to, ever." Carina's eyes widened. "Why don't you just sleep here on the bed for a while. I'll wake you when I need you." She agreed and I left her alone.
The Mayor would be hear any moment, but there was a feeling inside of me that didn't care for him, or of the Computer Game Choosing. The only strong feeling was that of the love for my dad. I believed that he was still out there, and I needed to go find him.
