My feet moved quick up the stairs. The Mayor was yelling at his guards to grab me, but what they had forgotten was that I was faster than them. I made a sharp turn into my room and slammed the door shut. I locked it. I knew that the guards would be at the door and could knock it down.
"CARINA!" I yelled, "Get up, it's time to go!" Carina slowly sat up straight.
"Mmmmm. That was a good na-" I cut her off.
"That's nice, but no time to talk. The Mayor's here and we need to go. Jump out the window, there's a soft padding of dead plants at the bottom. NOW GO!" Carina followed my instruction carefully. She leaped out the window, and thank god she was silent. I followed after her quick and quiet.
Just as I jumped out the window, the door started coming off. The guards were catching up and would soon realize that we weren't here. Right as I landed, Carina pulled me up, and we ran. I knew that Carina wouldn't be able to run very fast, but she had to try. Thankfully glitches can be slightly, recharged. She should feel refreshed after her nap.
"Carina? I yelled, are you doing ok?" I was already beginning to get tired.
I heard a faint, "Yes, I'm good." I knew that she would fall once again, but we had to try our best to keep going. We made sharp turns here and there, taking the hardest routes to follow. My hand began to hurt. "Why now?" I thought. I held on to my hand and applied pressure, so the pain would swell down. I took a quick glance at my hand when I knew that the guards were far behind. I gasped. What I saw was a square little metal slab, as big as my finger nail, in my hand. I knew what it was, it was the tracking device. I did slightly remember a pinch before I sprinted up the stairs, they must have gotten the device into me.
"Carina! We have a slight problem!" I needed to tell Carina, not telling her could result in me looking for my dad alone.
"Carina! They implanted the tracking device into me, I'll explain later! But we might not be able to stop!!" There was no answer. "Oh geez" I thought. I knew that she had collapsed again, but we didn't have time for this. I pivoted around, only to see empty streets and no Carina. I wanted to scream. But then I heard a faint sound, "Celeste... Celeste!" I turned back around to see Carina peeking out from under the old Street Sees Inc. building. "C'mon! You said it yourself! We need to go!" I hesitated a moment, but knew that she was right. I slipped under the house to see a space big enough for 30 people to fit in.
"Carina, you might not understan-" Carina cut me off
"I know. Do you think that I don't know about tracking devices for the Games?" She spoke with a sassy tone, "I do, you know I am 14!" My mouth gaped open. I had no idea that she was 14! She must have been training for the Games but being a glitch in all, she was slowed down, a lot!
"I had no idea that you were 14! That's great!" I was beginning to whisper, the sound of robots was dangerously close.
"Celeste, listen. Don't freak about the robots, they don't bring or use the tracker the first day through the third. I thought you would know tha-" I put my hand over her mouth. I flattened my body out, just to see whole load of guards standing right by our spot. I heard part of their sentences and words.
"Girl, left, loose, catch, and the last word, which made all of the color drain from my face, delete.
