Gold~

I looked at the digital map on my pokedex, checked the note I had read a thousand times, and looked back up at the mountainside.

I was definitely in the right place.

I racked my brain. Was it the wrong day? I checked the top right corner of my pokedex screen. Nope, it was definitely the last day of August.

So where the heck was Silver?

I read the note for the thousand and first time, making sure I wasn't missing any details.

Hello, rival.

I know it's been a long time since you've heard from me, but I've been working on becoming stronger. I trust you have as well, although knowing you, you very well might have spent the entire time cheating at poker and listening to DJ Mary.

I snorted a laugh at the line, which still hadn't gotten old. It was just like him to think that he was the only one serious enough to improve his battle skills over the years. He was going to regret underestimating me!

_

Our last battle had less than ideal circumstances. Even so, I quite enjoyed fighting you, maybe more so than fighting alongside you. I may have won that day, but I think we both know neither of us were exactly playing fair.

If you would also like a rematch, meet me on the northern face of the mountain where we captured Ursaring and Teddiursa, at 6 p.m. on the last day of August. I would appreciate a chance to defeat you fair and square this time.

I scratched my head and looked around. He was still nowhere to be seen, and the sun was starting to set to my right.

Two hours, and the punk didn't even bother to show up?!

"Silver, if you're hiding around here somewhere, you're NOT FUNNY!" I shouted, kicking a rock towards the edge in frustration.

My own echo ricocheted back to me, causing some rocks on the peak above to ominously rumble.

"Uh-oh," I said, looking up.

Part of a rock ledge collapsed, releasing a slide of rubble.

"YAAAAAA!" I yelled, running just out of reach of the landslide I had triggered.

I realized very quickly that 1. there was no way I could outrun a landslide for more than a few seconds, and 2. I was bolting straight for the edge of a cliff.

"Tibo, you're up!"

I pulled my cue off of my back and dropped Tibo's ball ahead of me. In one fluid motion, I launched his ball into the air and vaulted off of the ground, using my cue to propel me into the air and over the edge of the fast-approaching ledge.

Luckily, Tibo and his swarm of remoraid were well trained by then to grab onto the pool cue.

Less luckily, they had more success than I did. My hands, being sweaty for no reason at all (I definitely wasn't nervous about battling Silver, shut up), had slipped.

"$%&#!" I yelled, plummeting over the edge of the cliff.

Tibo, unfortunately, wasn't exactly equipped to turn around quickly enough to catch me without running into the steep rocky mountainside. That didn't stop him from trying to keep up with me, although I was falling way too fast for him to safely catch up.
