the ride back home was quiet. i hate the quiet. when we made it make home, mum sent summer to her room but told us to sit on the couch, "sneaking out on summers first night here, i can't believe you two have put me in this position. i'm sorry, but you both are grounded." she tells us sternly.
i stand from my seated position looking at her as she turn around to walk away, "mum, we're in the quarters tomorrow, we have to be there!" i plead, ari stands nodding and repeating my words.
she turns back to us and shakes her head, "you should've thought if that before you snuck out." i roll my eyes. "summer's here all by herself, she doesn't know anyone. you two need to set and example."
ari throws his arms in the air, "we didn't ask her to come." i hit him in the ribs and gave him a look that read i actually like summer you little bitch so stop.
mum shrugged, "well she's here now, so deal." she points sternly at ari. he walks off with a 'whatever'.
i stay back in the room. mum sits down putting her hands on her head. "hey mum i'm really sorry," i bend down next to the chair she's in, "it was my fault, i'm really sorry but please let ari surf tomorrow. he really needs this mum." she looks up at me. you can see the tears swelling in her eyes.
i reach forward and hug her, "i'll think about it." she speaks so softly i'm surprise i even heard her. "good night my emery." she says releasing me from the hug.
"good night mum." i tell her giving her a kiss on the cheek before making my way back to my room ready for sleep to over take my body. wait, was marlon flirting with me at the party?

the next morning, me, ari, and summer have to work in the garden as a part of our punishment. i'm on one side, ari and summer on the other.
after about 2 hours, i had to go the bathroom. so i went into the house my brother runs in right after me. grabbing me by the shoulders, turning me to him as he spoke, "get your suit and your board were surfing!" he saw i wasn't moving so he pushed me, "emery bailey downs! get. your. suit." i put my hands up in surrender, running to get changed.
when i walk back out i see dad, ari, and honey in the van, "about time you got out here, i though i was gonna have to ring the jacks, let's go!" honey yells as i grab my board putting it in the boot before sliding in beside honey.

we make it just in time for ari's heat. as he runs towards the water, i see marlon pop up beside him. oh this is gonna be interesting.
