i look at my brother in the water, my dad and sister by my side. "woo! let's go ari!" we all yell something of the sort to the boy in the water.
ari is ripping it out there. i mean i've seen him surf, but he's really getting into it now. but he wasn't the only person who caught my attention. i see a bright red shirt. why do my eyes always betray me when he's around?!
with only five minutes left in the heat, marlon and ari are definitely getting first and second, ari being first of course. marlon is gunning after ari and i could see it. i turn to the side to poppy with her headphones on, and yes, i know 'don't bother poppy while she's in the zone' she's my best friend of course i know.
i give my dad and sister a hug before walk over to her. she must have sensed my presence because she turned and gave me a smile. i smiled back, putting my own head phones on.
sadly, we're both interrupted by someone grabbing on of the sides to our headphone, "oh hey. sorry we've got a heat coming up."
she looks at me and back at summer, "yeah sum, we're really trying to focus." i tell her as kindly as possible.
she nods understandably looking back at poppy, "right. just checking, do you think your brothers too busy for that ride to the airport?" she asks.
the tetanui girl looks at me again before turning to summer, "i don't know, manu's pretty flat out, but... prawnie, can you drop summer at the airport later?" she ask her other brother.
he leans up slightly, "yeah. as long as she's into baker boy and she's ready to leave by three" he says leaving back. poppy gives him an 'ok' as summer says 'cool' and thanks poppy.
i put my headphone back on, really needing the music today because i'm really stressed.

after summer and poppy's little chat, me and pops go and change in the van as summer waited for us outside. when we're done, we all walk over to bohdi and eliza.
as we approach them, we see marlon and ari fighting. "is this some mystical surf ritual i don't know about or a stupid boy fight?" summer ask us four. we all answer at the same time 'stupid boy fight',
"i don't have time for this, manu!" poppy yells as she turns around and bohdi and eli both run to break them up.
a few seconds later, manu comes running so fast, i barely see him. i turn around to join poppy, patting summer on the shoulder as i walk past.

i'm sitting on a chair under the tent reading before my heat to calm my nerves, "hey bailey." the voice doesn't have an australian accent or american but brazilian. i look up and lock eyes with him. he look at my lap, "so what are you reading today?" he sits in the sand next to the chair. i look at him and then back at the book, ignoring him. he huffs beside me, his breath hitting my exposed stomach. he grabs my book and bookmark and closes it.
i stand up to grab my book, but he stands as well, "give me my book, sousa!" i say through my teeth. he's a few inches taller than me so he hold it up high in his hand. "i'm not supposed to be talking to you so just give it."
i keep walking forward, he looks at the front of the book, "mhm, jane erye. good choice. and why is it you can talk to me?" i stay silent. he's walking backwards as i keep coming towards him.
he must have done it on purpose because he fell backwards, making me fall on top of him. i don't realize how close we are until our noses touch. i get up really fast, grabbing my book and putting it in the chair. "don't. touch. my. stuff." i tell him angrily.

it's finally time for my heat and i'm against eliza this time. i can't tell which is worse, bohdi or eliza? they are just both too good. let just hope i get second.
i've been practicing my pop shuvit, so i think i might be able to do it. i've been out her for 20 minutes, i finally see a good wave coming so i start paddling out, but so does eli.
i wish i could say i was a good friend and gave her the wave, but, i couldn't do it, this wave was amazing. so once i start riding the wave, i do some turns and nail them, and then before the wave finishes i try to do my pop shuvit. i lift my feet if the board. the board turns. and i make it.
i didn't expect to actually land, so once the wave finishes i let out a loud howl. i paddle back to shore, very please. when i get back i'm engulfed in a hug by poppy, ari, bohdi, and manu. they all give me praises but i feel like i'm about to pass out.
i look over at manu, i see him talking to me but i can't hear him. everything starts to spin as i see marlon and summer laughing while running towards us. when they reach us, marlon grabs my arm, "marz?" and after that i blacked out.
