Purely Carol's POV this chapter

-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

"Well the couch alone here is thirty dollars, but we do have a good deal on a set. If we come over here, this piece will fulfill the aesthetic you're looking for" I stated with nothing but smiles. Today was my first day starting the job I got accepted for on Fourth Avenue, to say the least. I was thrilled to have made about five sells and right now I'm already on my sixth customer. As I told Therese.

Ancestor's may have been carpenters.

"Alright! we'll take it! thank you so much ma'am" The young couple before me cheered as they we're completely swooned on the deal I had offered on the set.

"Okay..." I mumbled while punching some numbers into the computer.— "That'll be sixty dollars and eighty-five cents" I chimed, turning my head to already see a credit card being offered. After about twenty minutes of finalizing everything the couple left with all smiles and giggles happy they closed the deal and would be receiving their furniture within three days.

And I couldn't have been happier for the two, yet. I was exhausted down to the bone. Trust me having to wear a smile can get tiring. Raising my wrist I peaked the time and it was already four o'clock in the afternoon, I couldn't believe I already had thirty minutes left of my shift. To waste the time out I thought why not do a bit of cataloging, so there was me. Walking around the store with a clipboard, checking things off as I walked on; abruptly I felt another presence besides me. Turning I met the older man who was known of my boss. "Oh! Mr. Chester. You nearly frighted me" I greeted with a sigh a ridicule following pursuit not to shortly afterwards.

"My apologies" Charles laughed.— "You know Carol, I have to admit. I'm extremely astonished by your work today. No one has ever been able to make that many sells on their first day of working here, not even me" Charles went on a praised ramble, I couldn't help but feel flustered at the profound words being thrown my way. If anything I was nowhere near that route of thinking, I didn't even think it was impressive myself, yet I was proud of myself. It was a pleasant change than the suburban housewife title I used to be dubbed.

"Thank you Chester"— "I guess those housewife tricks do have it's perks. Maybe my welcoming demeanour had a play in the outcome of the sales" I added on which resulted in me and Charles sharing a laugh.

— "Say Carol. Why don't you leave early as a token of my gratitude" Charles offered me and my was I shocked.

"Oh Mr. Chester... I do have to admit that I'm flattered on your offer, but I only have twenty-five minutes left of my shift. I don't think that's necessary" I declared, stopping my movements completely.— "I know it's not necessary. But I do insist that you take this offer, it'll make me a happy man" Charles went on, I couldn't even refuse the offer anymore. I was in all but struck and amazed by the insane offer. "I don't know how I could repay you on this" I finally admitted with a defeated sigh and a sympathy smile on my face.

"You don't have to repay me, Carol. Now go on, I'll see you in tomorrow" The older man before me nodded to the break room that was a few feet away from us. Subconsciously my body lunged on the man trapping him in a tight hug that he quickly reciprocated, I was ecstatic from everything. Suddenly after seconds of just hugging the man I realised how unprofessional this was, I was behaving like a child and at the age I was, it couldn't have been anymore but embarrassing. Pulling back and clearing my throat "Sorry. That was highly unprofessional" I pointed out with a nervous laugh.
