“Repunzel, wake up.” Josh said in a very sweet voice. I wake up and look around. Jessie McDooley is sitting on a chair to the right of me and Josh Dumez is seating on the couch with me.

“Huh? Did I fall asleep?” I asked.

“I’d say, you were asleep through the whole movie!” Jessie said with a smile.  That’s right, we were watching a movie. I guess I was really tired.

“You fell asleep on my shoulder.” Josh added. I do remember laying my head down on Josh’s shoulder, I guess I got comfortable.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t realize how tired I was. At least I’ve seen the movie before.” I said feeling myself blush.

“You’re fine, I would’ve let you sleep longer but it’s getting late and I needed to leave. I was afraid that I would wake you anyway as I got up.” Josh said.

“Thanks. I’ll see you later.” I said.

                “Tomorrow, lunch?” asked Josh.

“Sure, that’s sounds great!” I replied. He smiled and kissed me on the check. Then he got up, said his goodbyes, and left. Jessie and I went to bed soon after that.

Jessie McDooley is my roommate and best friend. We met last fall when I started college and found out that we were going to share a dorm. Josh Dumez is my wonderful boyfriend. We started dating about a year ago. He goes to the same college and just happens to dorm down the hall. Jessie and Josh were a great help less than a year ago when my mother got sick with Primary Amyloidosis and passed away. It was really hard for me since my dad left me when I was very little. I don’t have any close family, but Jessie has been like a sister to me. Maybe one day Josh will be actually a family member, but until then he just feels like he’s my family.

The next day Josh picked me up for lunch. Just like normal, I start talking to him and telling him everything about my day. It is so easy to talk to him! Josh is a great listener and he’s fun to talk to.

“Do you want to visit your mom’s grave today?” he asked.

“I haven’t done that all week, I probably should.”

“It seems to me that you’re moving on. I’m glad you’re doing great.”

“I couldn’t if it wasn’t for you two.”

“By the way, what exactly do you do there? I know you have your eyes closed, are you praying?” he asked.

“Sometimes I am. Actually...you can’t tell anyone, but I kind of talk to her. I know that sounds silly, but I guess it makes me feel better.” I said.

“I see, lots of people do that. I totally understand.” he said real sweetly.

“You can’t tell  anyone though, not even Jessie.”

“I won’t, your secret is safe with me.” he promised. I thanked him and then we headed over to mom’s grave. I replaced the flowers I left there last week and sat next to the gravestone. I told mom that everything was going well and that I still miss her dearly. Then Josh drove me back to my dorm. When we got there we just stood in the doorway for a little while. He looked down at his watch then said he was going to be late for class if he didn’t leave. Then he gave me a loving hug and kissed me on top of my head. Then he ran off to get to class. I walked in and saw Jessie reading a book.

“Hey girl. How was lunch?” she asked.

“Great, as usual. What about you?”

“Pretty good, Daniel stopped by here and talked for a while. He left a few minutes before you got here.” she answered. Daniel was Jessie’s boyfriend. Daniel and I dated for about 2 years until I started going to college. Jessie helped to realize that he wasn’t the guy for me. Very soon after that Jessie and Daniel started dating. Of course that made me think that Jessie made me break-up with him so she could date him. Jessie hadn’t though, it just seemed like that. Luckily I finally talked to her and now everything’s great between us. We all just pretend that nothing ever happened. Yes, Daniel and I are friends, but we both are okay with that.

“That’s good. Josh took me by mom’s grave after lunch.” I said.

“Good to hear. Speaking of Josh, do you mind if I ask you a question? It’s more on the personal side.” Jessie questioned.

                “Sure, ask away.” I replied.

“I was wondering what you two think about the whole kissing thing.”

                “What do you mean?”

“You know, do you two think it’s okay to kiss; before you get married?”

“We’ve talked a little about it. We’re going to wait until at least engaged.”

“How come? Why did you decide that?”

“Lots of different reasons. I don’t think we should kiss until you’re at least engaged. Besides, I’ve got this thing for the old times. Back then they didn’t kiss before they were married. Some of them would only wait until engagement, but not usually.”

“Hmmm... Josh is okay with that?”

“Yeah, he agreed with me. What about you and Daniel?”

“We’re waiting until we’re married.” she replied. Jessie must have talked him into that one. Daniel didn’t ever like that I wouldn’t let him kiss me. Back then I didn’t know if I wanted to do the kissing thing or not. I would just tell him that I didn’t feel like it right now. I’m surprised that Jessie got him to agree to waiting that long.

“That’s good to hear. You want to try to catch a movie?” I asked, changing the subject.

“Sounds good to me! Let me grab my things.” she replied.
