Almost two weeks later and it seemed like things weren’t going well with Jessie. She still hadn’t told me what was going on, but she was too busy to stop and tell me. It was Thursday and the dance was on Saturday. Since Jessie had been so busy, we hadn’t gone looking for a dress. I thought about looking for one without her, but I realized how excited she was about the whole thing. What am I supposed to do?

Jessie got home about 2pm. She looked at me and I could tell by the look on her face that she was extremely tired.

“Par?” she asked. That was French for “ready”. It sounds a lot like “potty?” I’m not sure were Jessie learned that word, but she likes to use it.

                “Ready for what?”

“To go shopping for your dress. I hope we can find one.”

“We’re going shopping? You look too tired. Are you sure?”

“Of course I’m sure! Come on! We’re wasting daylight!” she said as she grabbed me by the hand and led me out the door.

We headed over to Kohl’s and actually found a dress! It was different shades of blue and sparkly.  It had three inch-straps and black trimming. It was perfect. Jessie said that it would be a great dress for dancing in. I loved it; especially when we found out that it was in my price range! After we were done in the dress department, we headed over to the shoes. We found this really cute pair of shoes that almost perfectly matched my dress! Then Jessie said that she was going to take me to get my nails done. Once she heard that I said that I couldn’t afford getting my nails done, she said that she was paying. Jessie is so much fun! Not to mention really nice. My nails ended up black with blue flowers, and sparkles. Everything seemed perfect. Jessie told me that she would be there to help into the dress and wanted to see Josh’s face when he saw me. She said that everything else could wait until I’ve left. Then we drove back home and sat down on the couch.

“I think we did amazing today!” I rejoiced.

“I’d say! I love how your nails look. They’re perfect with your dress!”

                “Thanks again for paying!”

“You’re welcome. I seriously can’t wait to see Josh’s face when he sees you! I bet he’s eyes will sparkle as much as your dress does!”

“I don’t know about that, but maybe they will a little bit. By the way, how are things going with you?”

“Not too well. My grandma has cancer and getting worst every day, my uncle is being a complete jerk, and my cousin is making really bad choices. You could say that my family is falling apart.”

                “That’s really awful!”

“Tell me about it! That’s why I’ve been so busy. Between helping my grandma, talking with my cousin, being bothered by my uncle, and trying to keep everything together I have no time for myself! It was good to go shopping with you today. I told everyone that I had to go shopping. I guess it worked. I’m sure they’re going to start calling me soon.”

“What is everyone else doing about all of this?”

“Depends on the person. Some of them are doing absolutely nothing about any of it. Most of them are just complaining and making things worst. Only a few of us are actually trying to make things better. Trying to keep the family together!” she said starting to cry.
