It was a typical day in colonial Philadelphia.
Everyone els was busy at Mr. Franklin's printing shop, but Henri leFevbre wanted to go out and play. Being a typesetter and assistant is an interesting job, but sometimes he can get a bit tired doing it. He was an eight year old kid after all, and he was allowed to play. But first he had to sneak out of the printing press. James, he's wouldn't let him step a foot out that door. He was much like a bossy older brother to him.
Grabbing his coat, Henri tiptoed towards the front door and was about to carefully open the door. He is nearly out the door when Sarah caught him in the act.
"Henri, where do you think you're going? We have a lot to do around here."
"Aww, come on, Sarah. I worked plenty. Why can't I go and take a break?"
"You know we have an important story to print today. It must be done. How would Mr. Franklin think about you skipping out on what you're supposed to be doing?""What's going on out here?"
Mosses came into the room, wiping his hands off.
"Henri sneaking out instead of helping us. Aren't you going to say anything about it?"
Unexpectedly, instead of telling Henri to go back to work, Moses said,
"Just go on out, Henri. I'll only allow it this time. But you have to continue working soon as you get back."
"Oh, thank you mosses! You are the greatest."
Henri turned to Sarah and stuck his tongue out at Sarah.
Sarah shook her head at him but smiled.
Sometimes that boy could be much like a brother to her."Au revior!" With that Henri sprung out the door. He strayed across town, head held up high proudly. He imagined he is the general George Washington, coming back from a big victory defeating the British. He nodded his head towards the ladies and saluted towards men walking by.
He felt brave and strong. Yet he wanted to now go into battle and he knew where to head, to the woods.
"Onward to the front line, soldiers!"
Henri took off sprinting to the wooded area near the Delaware. He made it there and stop to catch his breath. He surveyed the areas for any imaginary red coats, yet so far, he seen none.
"I believe this must be a surprise attack. Prepare to fire when they I say so.
He went further into the woods, grabbing a huge stick to use as a rifle.Henri crept around, preparing himself for the imaginary attacks. Yet still, the "enemies" were no where in sight.
"It's quiet, too quiet. They must have plotted and positioned themselves very well. You can come out and fire now. Me and my men are ready for you!"
No movement was detected.
"I said come out!"
Still, no movement.
It was awfully quiet for a long while before suddenly, a large bush rustles heavily.
"Ah ha! So now to ready to attack. Well, come on and bring it!"
Henri "cocked" his rifle stick and aimed it at the rustling bush.A moment later something large came out of the bush, a dark brown wild pig with sharp tusks. It was the biggest wild pig he ever saw.
Henri was startled with surprise, before he could back up and run away, the boar rammed his tusks into his leg three times, goring a huge gash.
Henri screamed out in pain, stumbling backwards a few feet before falling to the ground. The hog squealed with rage, tearing at the ground with his hoof.
Henri sat there, shaking with fear. This pig was too powerful for him. There was nothing he could fight him off. Besides, he couldn't move with the gash in his leg.He started to yell for help.
"Aide! Help me, somebody! Please! Aide!"
He cried out hoping someone could hear him but nobody answered. This was it for me, Henri thought. He was going to get killed by this wild pig, and he was all alone.
"It looks like I'll be seeing my parents today. I'm coming, Mama and papa."Shaking with terror, Henri curled up into a ball bracing himself for the pig's sharp tusks gore into him. Yet, he wasn't alone.......
