I attempted to call Felix multiple times since yesterday, but he didn't bother to pick up. So I decided to approach him at school instead.
While walking on the road, I noticed a boy around my age helping an elderly lady to cross the road. His manners were impeccable, I was impressed.
But when he turned around, I was taken aback. It was none other than the boy that had been trying to get in touch with me, Aaron.
"He's not that bad at all," I whispered to myself. After he finished helping the lady, our eyes met and he came over to me.
"Hey, Elina, nice to meet you," he greeted.
"Same here," I chuckled.
A sudden thought appeared in my mind that there's nothing wrong in being friends with him.
"Friends?" I asked, extending my hands for a handshake. He gladly accepted, and we shook hands before continuing our walk to school.
After a few minutes, I noticed a lifeless cat laying on the street. I rushed towards it, Aaron followed me. As I stared at the cat, i realised it was the same one that had broken into my house the day before. Its body was covered in bruises, as if someone had beaten it to death.
"How could someone be so heartless to kill an innocent little cat!" I exclaimed, tears streaming down my face.
"Please don't cry," Aaron comforted me.
"You know, this cat broke into my house yesterday, but it left without any warning. I shouldn't have let it go. None of these would've happened then," I sobbed.
Aaron patted my back to calm me down. "May its soul rest in peace," he said.
"Whoever did this, I hope they suffer." I said angrily.
"Let's go to the graveyard to bury its body," Aaron suggested.
We buried the cat with sorrow, but Aaron and I still had to go to school. Glancing at my watch, I gasped, we were half an hour late.
"AARON, run fast, we're late for the school!!"
I held his hands and started running as fast as we could.
By the time we arrived, my heart was pounding. I suddenly realised I was still holding Aaron's hand. I quickly let go, and an awkward silence fell between us.
Standing outside the classroom, I saw teacher had already started out lesson. I feared as I have never been this late before.
Slowly, I pushed the door open to avoid making any noise. The teacher noticed us and immediately began scolding us severely.
"Elina! Do you know what time it is?" "You're 45 minutes late!" she scolded.
"I've noticed you haven't been your usual self lately!" "Behave yourself otherwise I'll call your mother and inform everything!"
"Actually teacher, we–" Aaron tried explaining but she stopped him and said, "Am I talking to you Mr. Blake?"
He lowered his gaze in response.
"I hope you'll not repeat again, now kindly take your seats" she said sternly.
We quietly took our seats and waited for the class to be dismissed.
After class, I apologised to Aaron, feeling guilty that he had been scolded because of me.
"I'm sorry, it's my fault that you got in trouble," I said sincerely.
"Hey, don't apologise. It's not your fault, okay?" He said softly looking right at me.
His kind words made my heart flutter with warmth.
"I'm greatful that I found a friend like you. I hope we can always get along," I said smiling brightly.
Later, I looked for Felix, but he didn't come to school that day.
I decided to visit his house after school. With that in mind I headed to the cafeteria.I was sitting alone at my lunch table, opening my lunch box, when a group of bullies appeared.
"Well, well, isn't it little miss nerd?" The group leader Sana, mocked.
"Eww! Your food looks disgusting!" Zenna, her fellow flunkey sneered.
I stood up and decided to leave the cafeteria, trying to ignore them, but one of them pushed me harshly.
I closed my eyes tightly, ready to feel the floor but I felt a hand on my waist.
Opening my eyes I saw Aaron, grabbing my waist, preventing me from falling.
He helped me to stand up and said, "Are you hurt somewhere?" "No, no, I'm okay," I replied.
Sana teasingly remarked,
"Seems like our nerd has turned into slu-""I dare you to finish that line! I assure you'll never feel a single muscle in your body afterwards!" Aaron said glaring at Sana.
They took one look at the fury in his eyes and fled from there quickly.
Aaron came over and sat down next to me.
"Why you let them bully you, Elina?" He asked gently. "If you stand for yourself, they'll stop bothering you.
I just shrugged.
"I don't give a fuvk on them, let them do whatever they want."
Aaron shook his head. "Well I won't stand for it. If they mess with you again, they'll have me to deal with."
I smiled a little."Thanks, but don't worry about it." I changed the topic.
"Didn't bring a lunch today?"
"Nah, I eat from the cafeteria usually. I live alone so no home-cooked meals."Hearing his words, guilt weighed over me as I've been behaving so rude towards him lately.
"If you want I could start packing two lunches and you can have one," I offered.
Aaron's eyes lit up like stars.
"Really? You'd do that for me? "That would be amazing!"
"It's settled then, two lunches starting tommorow!" I said with a grin.
Soon the final school bell rang and everyone headed to their homes.
As everyday Aaron offered me to walk me home. This time I didn't disappoint him. I agreed, then we headed to our home.
