If you had told Max and Mike in the summer of 1985 that they would soon fall for one another, they would have thought you were completely deluded.

They were so convinced they hated one another. However, they soon realised what they felt wasn't really hatred at all.

It was love.

Their time together was short and sweet and they confessed their love for one another on New Year's Day of 86.

Max came to the conclusion that they couldn't be together if they wanted to keep their friendships with El and Lucas.

So the two went their separate ways, stayed friendly but rarely crossed each other's paths.

Little did they know they would soon become apart of each other lives once again.

In the years they had apart they shared ten moments together. Ten moments where they thought things might change for them.

Ten moments where their feelings resurfaced.

Summer 1986

Since breaking things off with Mike, Max had barely crossed paths with him. She moved form rooms without telling him, switching to be with other friends. When he realised she moved class and didn't tell him, he then came to terms with how serious Max was when she said they couldn't be together. He soon moved into Lucas and Dustin's form, confused as to why Max never mentioned it.

Mike was completely miserable and didn't understand why Max seemingly moved on so easily. She still smiled at him in class, in the hallway and briefly spoke to him in class.

But nothing was the same anymore.

It hurt him not only because he didn't realise he had agreed to loosing her completely, but because he knew she remained friends with Dustin and Lucas.

The months went by quickly and the pair interacted less and less, making it easier for both of them to move on.

On June 3rd Max received a phone call.

Max: Hello?

El: Hey it's El.

Max: Hi! How are you?

The girls had been calling each other regularly, keeping each other updated on everything happening in their lives.

After talking for a while, El mentions coming to Hawkins in summer break.

Max: Oh my god yes that would be great.

El: I'm so excited to see you. We'll probably stay at Mikes again but I'd love to have a sleepover just us at yours too.

Max feels her stomach twist at the mention of Mike.

Max: Yes that sounds good, I'd love that.
