In the morning, I checked that my clothes were dry. If not, I would be wearing shorts and a tank-top and I would freeze. They were mostly dry, so I chucked them in my backpack, threw on my shorts, pulled my flannel over my tank-top and walked out over to the restaurant on the main floor.

"Good morning," Asami pulled up beside me. She was wearing a white tank top, dark blue jeans, and a pair of navy blue converse.

"You look good," I noted. Her outfit accented her body.

"We're kind of matching," Asami stated. It was true, the blue of my shorts kind of matched the blue of her jeans.

"I like that," I smiled. The dining room was empty. I had thought there was at least one other person staying at this resort, but nope. I sat down at a corner table for two and stared at the menu. Caspian was sitting next to the window and was sipping a cup of coffee. Asami had chosen a seat close to mine, but also alone.

"What is it with us liking to eat breakfast alone?" Asami wondered.

"It is a ritual," I responded. "I need my glass of orange juice and hot chocolate, then I need to just sit and think."

"I guess we all have our breakfast routine and we have to not disrupt it," Asami agreed. "I love a good cup of coffee in the morning."

"What can I get for you?" A waiter came by holding a pad of paper, pen poised above the lines.

"I'll start with a glass of orange juice and a hot chocolate. Thank you," I replied. "Can I have another minute with the menu?" The waiter nodded and went to get my drinks started. The dining room was simple, booths lined the outside of the room while tables were set up along the inside.

When my orange juice arrived I sipped at it, wanting to save most of it for after breakfast. I focused on drinking the hot chocolate which was rich with chocolatey flavour.

"Are you ready to order ma'am?" The waiter asked. I nodded. "What can I get for you?"

"I'll have your Two-Egg Breakfast," I answered.

"How would you like your eggs?" The waiter asked.

"Over easy," I replied. The waiter wrote it down on the pad of paper.

"Would you like bacon or sausage or a mix of both? What kind of toast would you like?" The waiter's questions kept coming.

"I'll have both and white bread for the toast," I answered. The questions weren't bothersome. I had figured they were going to be coming.

"We'll get that going right away," The waiter nodded courteously before leaving. I opened my phone and scrolled through the news. Not much was happening back home so I closed my news and opened up messages. There was nothing new, and the text from Dax haunted me.

I'm sorry for not replying. I've been very busy lately. I'm not sure when I'll get home. I'm sorry for the argument. Can we make up?

No response came. Then again I wasn't hoping for one right away. There was probably a time zone difference. I stared out the window and watched the leaves on the trees sway in the breeze. In the morning light, the Black Forest seemed less ominous. The smell of eggs and potatoes alerted me that my food was ready. I set my phone on the table and ate my food in silence. The potatoes were slightly spicy yet salty, the smoky sausage and bacon were a perfect compliment to the rich egg yolk. It was delicious and once I finished I got the bill.

I checked my phone while I waited. There was nothing from Dax. If he was mad at me, I wouldn't blame him. I ghosted his message for the past couple of weeks and he was probably going to get payback. I shut off my phone, pocket it, and paid the bill. As I was leaving the room, Asami pulled up on my left.
