Finding love again

18 Miles Out

Callie's POV:

  I rub my head with a sigh and lean back on my chair as I load more bullets in my handgun. Right about now Rick and Shane are taking that boy Randall 18 miles out away from the farm.

It's a good plan but not really the one I wanted. It may be cold but I still say we kill him. He could regroup with his people and somehow come back with reinforcements. That's not what I want to happen.

  I glance to the side finding Maggie, Veronica, and Lori in the kitchen cutting some food for Beth who's still in a weird shocked state. Poor girl.

   I load my mag in and pull back on the chamber before sliding it in my holster on my hip. I stand up and pushed the chair in before walking over towards the kitchen.

"Hey Cals," Lori softly says with a smile and I plant a kiss on her cheek in greeting before moving over to Maggie and wrapped my arm around her waist. She smiles at me and leans back into me while cutting a cucumber.

"Callie, did Glenn tell you anything since you guys came back," Veronica spoke up and I look at her then shake my head.

"No. Only about Randall but that's it. Why?" I question. He really didn't say anything about her besides when we went to get Hershel but that's it.

   "He seems like he's avoiding me and I don't really know why. I mean he gave me a sort of reason why but I just don't understand it," she explains with a sad sigh and tossed a small carrot into her mouth.

   "Well I can try to talk to him for you," I offer with a bit of hesitation in my voice. If it's one thing I know about men is they don't really talk about their feelings out in the open.

   "No that's okay. I'm just gonna have to figure this out," Veronica says with a sigh and put some vegetables on a plate.

   "Listen men have to do certain thing, you know that. And they're either gonna blame the little woman as the reason they do 'em or the reason they don't. I'll tell you two something, what happens out there happens out there. And we- we're just trying to keep it together till they get back," Lori announces as she moved around the kitchen grabbing stuff.

   "Does that include me in that category?" I hesitantly ask and Lori just lifts an eyebrow at me, "right. Gotcha." I toss a slice of cucumber in my mouth and ate it.

   I didn't mean to worry Maggie or Emma. "Things were good. Maybe I-," Veronica starts to say but this time I cut her off gently.

  "Glenn's a big boy. He makes his own choices maybe not the right ones but he does. Do you have anything to apologize for?" I softly tell her then ask and she shakes her head with a frown, "then tell him to man up and pull himself together."

    "Just don't say 'Man up'. It never goes well," Lori quickly adds with a small laugh and the two Greene women laugh softly with her.

  "I think you should tell him. Hell, I'll tell him just that," I spoke up and begin to release Maggie to do just that.

  I'm gonna find the boy and tell him everything straight up. "Woah no no!" The three quickly stop me and Maggie pulls me back by my shirt.

  "No, Callie. It can't come from you. It has to be Veronica. And I know you, you can come off as threatening," Lori tells me with a look and I shrug slightly.

  So? I like coming off as threatening. Means no one can mess with you if you do. "Thanks anyway, Callie. Let me just get this to Beth," Veronica says with a sigh before reaching for the dinner tray.

"You go on. I got it," Lori says and picked up the dinner tray then took it towards Beth's room.

I grab another slice of cucumber and watched Veronica walk out of the house with determination. Oh Glenn you're about to get an earful.
