Author's pov:

Aether rested his head on his desk as the teacher talked. He listened for his name as Mrs. Tranken listed out the room assignments for the upcoming field trip.

"Lumine and Amber," Aether looked to his right where his sister was sitting. She looked excited to be paired up with Amber.

"-And finally, Xiao and Aether." The class went silent as Aether scowled. There is no way he'd room with Xiao.

Protests from a certain someone could be heard from the back of the room. Meanwhile, Lumine was snickering at her brother's terrible luck.

Time Skip

One week later, day of field trip.

Aether's pov:

I was packing my bag for the field trip, making sure to get extra money out of my stash in case I needed to buy anything. It was around 4 in the morning. The only reason I'm up this early is because I forgot to pack the night before.

"Extra blanket, clothes, money, bath products. Looks like I have everything." I checked my bag again just to make sure.

It was now around 6 am, meaning I should probably get ready. I could hear Lumine in the kitchen making breakfast for us before we left, so I didn't need to worry about that.

Throwing on a comfortable black T-shirt and ripped jeans, I went to fix my hair before putting on my shoes.

It was a simple outfit, but it would be comfortable on the long bus ride. I brushed my teeth quickly before meeting Lumine in the kitchen.

"Seems you're ready to go." She observed my outfit for a moment, "you're not going to wear the outfit I bought you for your birthday? I got it specifically for this trip."

"Lumine, we're going to be on a bus for 9 hours. There is no way I'm going to wear such an uncomfortable outfit." I crossed my arms.

"Mmhm." She hummed suspiciously, she finished preparing the food and sat it down in front of me.

"Thanks." She made my favorite food, it wasn't an extraordinary option for breakfast, but she knew I liked it.

I quickly ate my fried eggs as my alarm for 7 am rang, meaning it was time we left.

While I hurriedly rinsed the dishes and put them in the dishwasher, Lumine went back to our rooms and got our bags. I noticed hers was significantly larger than mine but that was to be expected, she's always been an over packer.

Throwing the bags in the trunk, she threw me the keys and got in the passenger seat. Meanwhile I got in the driver side and started the car.

She insists on always choosing the music, and today she chose some sappy love songs that she knew I hated. I groaned but didn't say anything about it.

As we pulled into the school, I saw our field trip director at the bus stop, directing students from our year into the busses.

"Ah, Lumine. Since you were partnered up with Amber for this trip, you'll have to sit with her on the bus. She's on bus number 374." Lumine nodded and ran off to her bus.

"Aether, I know you may dislike it but you'll have to sit with Xiao on the ride there. He's not here yet, so you can sit anywhere empty on whichever bus you choose." I scowled, could this trip get any worse?
