The line went dead and Kat was left holding the quiet phone, left far more confused and with more questions than when she'd started the call. She looked up.
"She wants me to go see her," she said.
Jove checked his watch.
"It's already 6. You wanna rest a little more, go in the morning?"
"Six isn't that late," she protested.
"Yea," he acknowledged. "But I'm worried about you."
Kat smiled slightly despite herself.
"I'm ok."
"Well, I'm going with you," Jove stated matter-of-factly.
"Ok," said Kat with a nod. "You have to wait in the car though."
"What if I want Greek food?" Jove teased, and Kat rolled her eyes.
"I'll bring you some," she said. "Cause you're staying in the car. There's already too much going on, I'm not doing a meet the parents thing right now."
Jove nodded.
"Fair. you think tomorrow will be calmer, or?" he joked, deadpanned.
"Shut up," said Kat, her face finally breaking into the smile she knew Jove was trying to tease from her. "C'mon. Let's go."
They made the short drive to Spatchy's quickly, fighting little lockets of late commute traffic, and Jove pulled up on the opposite side of the restaurant, sliding the car up to the curb in between two others.
"I'll be right here," he promised, and Kat slid out of the passenger door and hurried across the street, looking both ways for more than cars.
