Author's note.

So, Ruby's heading off to get her next badge. But, what new Pokemon will she catch along the way? A water type? A ghost type? A fighting type? Wonder who or what it will be? Even I don't know. Oh wait, yes I do, because I wrote this. Also, if the game's male protagonist were to appear in this, how does Scout sound as a name? And yes, he will have a Boston accent. So, leave a review, sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

Chapter 9

Feeling quite Tympole

Ruby's Badges:

Trio Badge - Won from Striaton City

Ruby's Pokemon:

Oshawott

Pansear

Patrat

Ruby POV.

It's been about half a day since I left Striaton City. I had currently set up camp with my Pokemon for the evening. We were near a lake and we had just sat down to a lovely dinner. Thank goodness for those camping trips when I was younger.

POV end.

As the sun broke, the sunlight broke through Ruby's tent and hitting her eyes.

"Rgh, morning already?" Groaned Ruby as she sat up. When she got up, she dished out some Pokemon food and made herself some breakfast.

"Okay, let's see", she said looking at her map. "If I follow this route here, I should make it to Nacrene City tomorrow". After she finished her breakfast, she went towards a river to clean the dishes. When she finished, she packed up and started off. As she walked down the path, she spotted a river that ran past it.

"Whoa~ there".

The voice caught Ruby's attention. She ran towards the source of the noise. When she made it, she saw that it belonged to an old man (possibly late 50's or early 60's), yanking on a fishing rod. On his shoulder, was a small blue duckling. He then gave it a mighty yank and out of the water game a green and black fish with blue lining. It went high into the air, and straight to Ruby.

"Oh crud" said Ruby. The fish then landed on her. She groaned when it made contact with her.

"Ugh, what, is this?" She groaned as she took out her Pokedex.

Basculin

The Hostile Pokemon

Basculin can be very violent and red and blue Basculin do not get along well, frequently resulting in battles.

Ruby then put her Pokedex away. Just then, a Pokeball hit the Basculin and it turned into red energy and got absorbed into the Pokeball. It shook and flashed red for a few seconds before beeping and stopped.

"That was unpleasant" said Ruby as she sat up. A hand was then in front of her, she looked up and saw the old man.

"You okay?" He asked. Ruby took the hand and was pulled up.

"Yeah, I'm fine" said Ruby. "But I do NOT want to do that again".

"Hehe, sorry about that", said the old man. "Oh, uh, my name's Liam. I'm a fisherman".

"Fisherman?" Asked Ruby.

"You better believe it missy", answered Liam. "Oh, this is cutie here's Ducklett".

"Ducklett duck".

"Ducklett?" Wondered Ruby as she took out her Pokedex.

Ducklett

The Duck Pokemon

These Pokemon are excellent divers as their favourite food, peat moss, is found on the bottom of lakes.

"Would you, mind if I pet it?" Asked Ruby.

"Go ahead, missy", answered Liam. "I think he'd be insulted if you didn't". Ruby then started to pet Ducklett, she could see that he was enjoying it.

"You're a Pokemon trainer, right?" Asked Liam.

"I am" answered Ruby.

"Well, follow me" said Liam. Ruby then followed him to where he had set up camp.

"Well, how about a little fact, curtesy of me?", suggested Liam. "Water type Pokemon are the second most common type of Pokemon in the world".

"Really?", asked Ruby. "Huh. Did not know that". Liam then reached into his bag and pulled out a fishing rod.

"A fishing rod?" Asked Ruby.

"Yep", answered Liam. "I'm gonna teach you how to fish". Ruby then took the fishing rod.

"Well, where do we begin?" Asked Ruby.

"Quite simple, young lady", answered Liam. "We just sit down on these chairs, and then we do THIS!". Liam then cast his rod into the water.

"Now, you try" said Liam. Ruby just sat on a chair and cast her rod.

"Now what?" Asked Ruby.

"Now all we do is wait" answered Liam. Ruby groaned at this, she did not like waiting for so long.

"So, are you new to the Unova region?" Asked Liam.

"Yeah, I arrived during that electric storm" answered Ruby.

"How did you make it?" Asked Liam.

"No", answered Ruby. "I literally arri-". She then saw that her line was moving.

"Whoa whoa, you got a bite" said Liam excitedly. Ruby then started to pull.

"Now, reel it in and pull" said Liam.

"I am, trying", groaned Ruby. "But what ever it is, it's strong". Eventually, she pulled it in. What came out of the water, was a blue and black tadpole-like creature with bumps on the sides of it's head.

"What's that?" Wondered Ruby as she took out her Pokedex.

Tympole

The Tadpole Pokemon

By vibrating it's cheeks, they can create high pitched sounds to alert others of danger.

"Quick, call out a Pokémon" said Liam.

"Oshawott", said Ruby. "Let's get crackin'". She tossed Oshawott's Pokeball and she came out.

"Use tackle on Tympole" said Ruby. Oshawott then tackled Tympole. Tympole then responded by releasing a beam of bubbles.

"Quick, move Oshawott!" Shouted Ruby. Oshawott then moved out of the way.

"Use Water Pulse" said Ruby. Oshawott then released a sphere of water and it struck Tympole.

"Now, catch it" said Liam.

"Go, Pokeball!" Shouted Ruby tossing her Pokeball. The Pokeball hit Tympole, opened up, turned Tympole into red energy and closed up. The ball shook for a few seconds and flashed red. Then, it beeped and stopped. Ruby then picked it in.

"Sweet", said Ruby. "Our family just got bigger, 'cause I just caught a Tympole!".

"Mighty fine catch you got there" said Liam.

"Thank you", said Ruby. "Also, thanks for teaching me how to fish".

"My pleasure" said Liam. They then heard the sound of growling, which was revealed to be Ruby's stomach.

"Hehe, sorry" said Ruby embarrassed.

"Eh, don't be", said Liam. "Tell you what, my wife's daycare isn't too far from here, how about I ask her to rustle up some grub for us?".

"That would be lovely" said Ruby. So, Ruby then followed him down the path, unaware that she was being watched.
