The Disaster Begins

Much talk throughout the Realms spread of the Mortal Kombat tournament, the upcoming tournament being the tenth one. Rumors were spreading of who was joining and why. Word had it that five skilled ninjas would be part of the contest this year, of five different colors and skills.

The first warrior said to be entering was Ermac, who, up until then, had been helping serve Kotal Kahn, ruler of Outworld. Many said the reason he was entering was so he could gain respect and fear from the audience and have himself seen as a symbol of the power and strength of Outworld.

The second ninja who had speculation to his name in relation to the tournament was Sub-Zero, one of the most enigmatic men in all the Realms. Among rumors of him competing, many also said that instead of a heart inside his chest, there was only a clump of ice, which gave him his abilities.

The next said to be joining was Scorpion, an easily upset master of controlling fire. Many expected not one to be competing if the other was not, Sub-Zero and Scorpion. Stories had told that Scorpion was killed by Sub-Zero years ago, and Scorpion was now joining hoping for his revenge.

The fourth ninja who most everyone thought to be joining was under the name of Noob Saibot. People debated for hours on the subject of what he was. Perhaps a cyborg, some kind of demon, a regular man who had underwent some great tragic accident or deal with the devil. Regardless of what he was, the fact was that he was joining, while the reason behind it was unknown.

The final fighter who was rumored to be in the tournament was Mileena, a woman that plenty of people believed to have the heart and soul of a monster. Her fighting style would suggest as much as well. Many heard word that it was merely her raging bloodlust that drove her to be in the contest.

These five fighters were said to be dangerous and deadly beings separate, now, together, no one soul in the Realms had any idea as to what was to happen. The only way to find out was to watch in the audience tomorrow.

In the weeks preceding the tournament, Shao Kahn, the former leader of Outworld, had developed a plan to reclaim his rule. With his daughter, Kitana, and servants, Quan Chi and Shang Tsung, the sorcerers, and Reptile, the scaled green skinned ninja, he planned to overthrow Kotal Kahn and host the tournament himself.

Shao Kahn had already been losing patience with Kotal Kahn since Kotal Kahn had stolen the loyalty of Ermac, who was Shao Kahn's creation in the first place. He hoped to be able to have his adopted daughter Mileena take the Outworld rule from him during the run of the tournament.

As Shao Kahn thought this, a portal in Outworld began to open. The portal had some purple substance being pulsed from it. From the portal, a body slowly emerged. The body had a long dark purple robe and a narrow beard coming from its face. The body was that of Ivan Ooze.
