The Infinite White

Chapter 46 - I Chose You

I watched as this man who we had invited into the pack house, shared our lives with turned into the one evil that had plagued us, had plagued the infinite white for hundreds of years.
    "How?" I ask in merely a whisper but he heard, the full might of the Demon Wolf boring down on me, the Hunters had all retreated to a further distance with Stephen Simmons, Taylor and Eric still standing in bewilderment,
    "After I discovered what I was and who I was and how my mother died, I went off to find who to get my revenge on those who killed my mother and cast me aside as if I was a mutt not worth their time, left to find my place in a world where neither side wanted me, I find a small group of wolves further North, where they are bitten into the pack rather than born and because I was already half of them, the bite transcended me, to become this, I am a God among wolves, I am Fenrir, and the Infinite White is nothing to me."
    "What about me?" I ask, I know it wouldn't hold much weight but I did believe Kyle cared for me before but now it was probably all a ploy to get under his brothers skin,
    "You chose the wrong Brother" he said before starting to stalk towards me, I didn't have enough time to shift, he would have me in his teeth by then, he needed to be distracted. A ball of fur landed on him and he shrieked as the claws ripped through him, it was Holden;
Help me Poppy I pleaded as I let my wolf loose, I bounded towards Kyle, my teeth bared as I latched on his neck, his head swung back my way and bucked Holden off him, sending him flying into the hill side, I gripped his neck so hard his blood started to pour into my mouth, the foul stench of it made me want to gag, but his neck was long and his jaw was big, he grabbed hold of my tail and pulled me off of him, throwing me into the hard earth, knocking the wind out of me, I wriggled, right side up and dashed out of the way before his teeth clamped down on me again.     "Get everyone out of here" I shouted to everyone who was still standing around watching this all unfold, should I fall so will they if they're still here, so they needed to leave. I didn't have time to look and make sure, I hear a release and a whooshing sound, looking further back the Hunters had gathered their bows and were unleashing them on the Demon Wolf, their arrows lodging in his side did little to deter him, all it did was make them a target, he swung around and grabbed hold of Stephen Simmons who had been his father his entire life, though not his blood, Stephen loved him like his son for the last twenty years, not knowing he wasn't his son until a week ago. Stephen let out a gargled cry as his teeth sunk into his torso, and he threw him against a tree with a loud crack, and he fell in a heap at the base, the night Keith died flashed back into my mind and looked for Eric who stared in disbelief and fear, as I believed his mind when back there too, I had to act quickly or they all would die, I climbed the hill and kicked off landing on his back, digging my claws into his side, I latched around his ear and pulled, ripping it off in between my teeth and tossed it on the ground, he growled in anger, and he rolled over with me still on his back, taking the full weight of this wolf, I lost my grip and he rolled up, he looked pissed but no more than usual I hadn't done anything to effect him. I quickly darted out of his way my smaller size giving me a short speed advantage and got under his stomach, flipping over I ran my claws down his stomach but his skin was too thick for me to slice him open. Poppy defeated him by ripping his throat out, only after she received the strength of her packs blood, but I am stronger than she was, smarter, I have to be, she died, I don't intend to die, not today and not by Him.
I ran, I was only faster over small distances she I had to make sure I got away far enough before he caught me, I went further into the woods, making sure I used everything to my advantage, under and over fallen logs, bouncing off rocks and trees, dodging around the bigger trees but I knew he was close behind, his legs longer, his lung capacity greater, he was there inches away, I quickly bounced off one tree to another just has he lunged for me, which sent him falling forward and had me land on top of him, I put my paw in front of his eye and sliced up with my claw, slicing through his eye, which got me a better result this time, only it had me falling back, my rips cracking against a rock as I fell, pain flooded me with every breath I took as I down on the grounds trying to centre myself and push passed it, he grabbed my leg and yanked me before him, his one eye staring down at me,
    "At least Holden still has his ear and his eye" I taunt through pained breaths,
    "That might insult me if you were trying to steady your breathing right now" he replied,     "Give me a second, I'll be good as new" I bluffed,
    "Doubtful" stepping on my side and cracking it even further, "I could collapse your ribs right here and now and there is nothing you can do about it" he smiled at me,
    "You went through all this trouble for what? To be acknowledged by your birth father? To prove you belonged with the pack? To find who killed your mom? For what Kyle? Because you just killed the only man who ever loved you for you are" I spoke, the disgust obvious on my tongue,
He released my side and I gasped a breath which put a pain through my chest I had never felt before,
    "You don't know me Lily, you don't know what my life was like growing up, I only had my mom, then she was taken from me, then my father was taken from me and my new father didn't want me, he didn't want to ruin the perfect family he had created, not for a half breed, Holden got everything I wanted, he got the power, the title, the love, I was just a mutt who was good for nothing so I became the nightmare no one could escape. I had Alpha blood, I just became more, now I'm stronger than an Alpha, faster than an Alpha, and I am going to take everything from Holden, including you, I tried making you fall for me but that stupid mate bond, stronger than I anticipated, still you were fun to taste" he said before biting into my neck, I didn't know what to do, I couldn't wriggle out and fight free, with one move he could end me, Then that ball of fur came out of no where again, Holden biting the side of his neck and twisting up onto his body making his jaws release on me but the blood was pouring,
    "Your grievance is with me, Mutt, leave her out of it" Holden growled from on top, he bit into his neck again and again until he was thrown off,
    "Well isn't this lovely, the mated pair, coming together to try and destroy the evil big bad wolf", he rolled my eyes at him but I was still within his reach and with one paw movement, my vision blurred as the pain spread throughout my body. Again time stood still.
"You are stronger than him Lily, you need to awaken yourself" Poppy's voice sounded inside my head,
    "I don't think I am" I said meekly
    "I didn't choose you so that you could die like I did, I chose to awaken in you because you were someone I couldn't be, someone smarter, stronger, your will is your strength, you don't give up Lily, so don't give up now"
I snapped too again and Holden wasn't fairing to well, I still loved him but I was right the anxiety of him fighting Kyle wasn't there, I would be rushing back in with no plan, only to keep Holden from dying and probably die myself.
I looked around from anything to help me, and I spied an fall tree, that had snapped on impact against a rock, leaving a nice little skewer for me to stick him with if I can get him aligned.
We may not have the mating bond anymore but I can still contact him through the pack link.
Holden, try and move him right, when he lunges for you dart to your right and take off as fast as you can I'll do the rest. I got a grunt of understanding as he was too focused to respond, and I moved to my left using a small hill to my advantage and stood and watched as Kyle went for Holden, Holden darted like he was told and as he took off so did I running at full speed the fastest I've felt myself run straight for the tree, I had timed it perfectly, however Kyle seen me coming and spun on me, and as I lunged for him he grabbed me with his jaws pulling me closer, the forced knocked him into the skewered tree, but there sharp pain to my chest indicated, I had also been hit.
I looked down to see the tree sticking out of Kyle's chest and though his body had slowed the impact a lot, the tip still pierced my side, I wriggled my neck out of Kyles mouth and saw his eyes vacant and his head flopped to the side. Holden rushed up beside me and gripped my fur with is jaw and slid me off the small point of the skewer, all the pain the was erupting through my body I didn't know what was happening, was it my chest caving, had my lungs been punctured, maybe my brain was damaged, I didn't know, all I knew was Kyle was dead and I was dying.
I'm sorry little one Poppy spoke to me,
I don't want to die I cry out to her,
I felt my wolf fall away and I was bare once more, blood covering my skin, dying in Holden's arms,
    "Lily, come on you're not meant to die, you said so yourself you weren't going to end up like the last infinite white, please Lily" he pleaded, holding me,
    "I didn't plan on it, it just sort of happened" I smiled at him through pained breaths.
    "I'm sorry, I didn't realise before how much you were hurting how much of a burden I had become to you" Now as not the time for it, I didn't need it I didn't want it, I just wanted silence and sleep.
    "No, Lily, Lily keep your eyes open do you hear me?" Yes of course I did, but I could answer him, there was nothing he could do as my mate because I broke that bond forever, the pack wasn't here to say goodbye, not even Taylor, it was just me and Holden, maybe that's the way it had to be all along, me and him, our mate bond was stronger than others, we knew that, always just putting down to him being a Alpha and I was just a strong wolf but maybe it was more, maybe I was wrong and Poppy was wrong, I couldn't have won without Holden being here to help me, she couldn't have won with her pack there to help her, maybe we were doing this all wrong and now it's too late.
